Historic Dain City Railway Bridge (Welland Canal Bridge 17) in Welland, Ontario, Canada. This section of the canal was bypassed by the Welland Canal Relocation Project (realignment around the city of Welland) in 1973.
The bridge is a Parker through truss vertical lift railroad bridge, although it no longer opens for water traffic. It was built ca. 1927 for the Canada Air-Line Railway (later the Canadian National Railway (CNR)) as part of the 4th Welland Canal expansion project (1913-1932). It is used today to serve local industries only.
We were there just in time for feeding. They really got stuck into their gum leaves. This one like the fresh tips best.
Doors to the Texas Theatre on Jefferson Ave. Now in the process of restoration the historic 1931 theatre will be opened as a venue for performance once more in Oak Cliff. I’ve recently been busy with time lapse photography, tried to get some time lapses of clouds and stuff. Started with 30 pics, any my last was about 300 pics. Yesterday I discovered how to edit many files at once with CS5…
This is what came out after 24 minutes of non-stop shooting :) My pc broke down twice because it was too much work for it haha. Ehmm.. I used my Canon 1000D to get the pics and just puted some kind of rubber band around the shutter release and studied while the camera was taking photos :D Will get a intervalometer for my next time lapses :) Can someone tell me why the movie isnt 16:9 now?

St. Augustine Lighthouse is located on the north end of Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, Florida. Built in 1874 of brick the St. Augustine Lighthouse is 163 feet high making it the 8th tallest lighthouse in the United States today. The lighthouse is supposedly haunted and episodes of the TV show Ghost Hunters have been filmed here and supposedly captured paranormal activity occurring in the lighthouse and area and workers at the lighthouse have reported hearing strange sounds and often see shadowy figures. Today St. Augustine Lighthouse is run by the non-profit St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum Inc and is open to the public and visitors can climb the 219 steps to the top for great views from this fun tourist attraction in Florida ~ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Augustine_Light

I purchased this old book illustration through an eBay auction in 2014, had it framed, and hung it on my office wall. Without knowledge of that, on October 24, 2023 Flickr ally Bill Smith referred me to an on online copy of the source book--"MOUNTAINEERING AND EXPLORATION in THE JAPANESE ALPS" by "the rev. WALTER WESTON, M.A., F.R.G.S." [Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society].
The book was “Published "LONDON: JOHN MURRAY, ALBEMARLE STREET. 1896."
The title page lists the author's affiliations:

This is his description of the statue:
"In the precincts of an ancient temple [Nōfukuji, in Hyōgo] near my former Japanese home there sits the most remarkable, though the youngest, member of that numerous family of Daibutsu ("Great Buddha") so familiar to the traveller in this country. The features, it is true, wear the conventional expression typical of that absolute calm and passionless condition, that Nirvana to which the devout Buddhist aspires. But on the forehead, in place of the little boss of metal that stands for the sacred "jewel of the law," the artist has fixed an electric light ! In some respects it is certainly a speaking likeness, a parable in bronze, of the Japan of to-day, with all the novelties of modern civilisation engrafted on the old-world ways and thoughts that have for so many centuries characterized this most remarkable race."
Electric lamp on the forehead! I've not seen that mentioned anywhere else. A forehead light is not obvious here or on my other images of this Buddha. (According to the "History" page of the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan's website, the nation's first electric power company, Tokyo Electric Lighting, had started supplying electricity to the public in 1887.) The earliest electric lights and power lines on Nofukuji Daibutsu postcards in this collection are postmarked 1909. The first lamps were rudimentary and obtrusive (Nofukuji_Buddha_Postcard_001_front), but new designs blended in within a few years (Nofukuji_Buddha_Postcard_022_front).
A picture in Weston's book online is identical to the one I had framed years ago--right down to the page number in the lower right corner.

On the archive.org website Bill found about 45 seconds of movie film that was shot at Nofukuji Temple. It's described as being "from the 1930s, probably produced by the Mikimoto Pearl company." The post's text notes the following running times and synopses of these segments:

Walking through Hambleton Wood which is located alongside Rutland Water, Anglian Water's drinking water reservoir in the county of Rutland, England, just east of the county town Oakham.
Its construction by damming the Gwash Valley near Empingham was completed in 1975. It flooded six or seven square kilometres of the Gwash valley as well as the side valley at the head of which lies Oakham. Lower Hambleton and most of Middle Hambleton were demolished and their wells were plugged as part of the ground preparation. Their neighbouring village of Upper Hambleton survived, and now sits on a peninsula within the lake known as the Hambleton Peninsula.
It provides a reserve supply of water in the driest and most densely populated quarter of the United Kingdom and is one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe and by surface area it is the largest reservoir in England, (10.86 square kilometres / 4.19 sq miles). It is set in 3,100 acres (13 square kilometres) of countryside, it has a 25-mile (40 kilometres) circular track for walking and visitors may hire a bicycle.

I thought of "naked ladies" but they are called that because the flowers bloom after the foliage.
