Still working on our Thrive Artwork for Winter. Pastor didn't like the shell with the oranges I posted previously. He wanted a picture... and people. So we went for a Panhandle Beach in winter look.

We're also going for a redesign of our bulletin shell. We're going from a legal size tri-fold to a letter size no-fold. The worship registration card will be perfed.

These will be pre-printed with the artwork and the text in the News and Notes section and on the Worship Registration Card will be printed in-house each week.

The harbour was a thriving centre for trade with France and Spain in the 18th century. The sheltered sandy beaches of Derrynane are nestled in Derrynane Bay and could readily be mistaken for a Caribbean island. The crystal clear waters are a brilliant turquoise blue even on the dullest days. The Harbour is close to the village of Caherdaniel on the Ring of Kerry and right beside Derrynane House, the home of 'The Liberator' Daniel O'Connell.

13L arrival. KASE-KDAL

Goal: Create a spring version of the bulletin for our year-long "Thrive: the acts of the Holy Spirit" sermon series on the book of Acts

Audience: Church family- primarily young families (parents in their 20s - early 40s)

Direction: Our pastor does mostly expository preaching- moving through a book of the Bible bit by bit, in order. Because of this, the exact topic of a sermon usually varies week to week, not giving us a strong visual to grab onto for the whole series. We thought that since we were spending an entire year in Acts, we'd go for seasonal shells. This is the spring version. The series title Thrive hearkens to the explosive growth of the church and the of individual believers.

Project: 8.5x11 bulletin shell, left third will be perforated for our Worship Registration Card.

Other important info: I'm not real crazy about how "Thrive" is just floating in mid air. Should I try to ground it? How are the blending mode on the branches working? Does it actually look like the word is stuck in the tree? Any other advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thrive is a community building project geared towards inspiring people to get more involved with each other and their community.

I've got school all weekend to get my smarticles... but I hope you all have a beautiful and colorful weekend!

Our next sermon series, Thrive, is on the book of Acts and will go for a whole year. We're trying to create a logo for the series and then create seasonal bulletins using the one logo. Here's what I've got so far.

So have at it. Should I continue to persue this direction? Should I start over? Any ideas on where to go from here? Thanks!

United we solidify.

Sutra The Gastropub : A Bon Vivant’s delight

Sutra Gastropub which hosted a wonderful event with Signature Expressions and the cult band Indian Ocean this week has already become a very significant part of the party scene in Gurgaon’s Cyber Hub. The restaurant offers soups, salads, a wide variety of starters and serves cuisines like Indian, Italian, Moroccan, American and European.

I like the menu; it has hearty, trustworthy dishes that the chefs have managed to execute well. The well being of the flourishing, diverse and experimental food tradition in India rests in the hands of such restaurants.

Jhul e kabab @ SutraSpeaking of the well-written, hunger-inducing, gutsy menu, we read it and immediately knew what we wanted. Such a musical night with iconic singers and musicians called for a lot of finger food and signature cocktails. We ordered a “Manhattan” with Signature’s best whiskey, “Mustard Fish Tikka”, “Seekh-e-khas” and “Jujeh Kebabs”.

Alfresco dining, iconic music, and an extremely cosy restaurant, is all that we needed after a long hard day at work. The restaurant is well planned and spacious. There is dark-wood furniture. There are two bars with bar stools for people who wish to sit there and drink the bartenders interesting cocktail concoctions; they also have a wine rack. Indian ocean sutra

On a weekday (Wednesday), the place is bustling with people; I wasn’t at all surprised, most restaurants at Cyber Hub are thriving, every day is good business, weekends are especially brilliant.

IMG_2425And then the food starts to arrive and it’s clear everything is going to be great. The food is fresh, the drinks are well balanced and the staff is courteous. Check. Check. Check. The restaurant checks all the right boxes for me. For main course I got a thin crust “Chicken Pizza”. I expected it to be heavy but it turned out to be surprisingly light. It was an utterly guilt-free pizza with extremely coordinated ingredients.

Most evenings and weekends are special for the restaurant because they organise fun-filled events for their patrons. Anoop, who manages the place, and it feels very much like a one-man operation, clearly knows how to make customers feel at home.

There are chunky burgers with chicken and lamb; the meat is tender, well cooked and extremely delicious. This multi-cuisine restaurant does a mouth-watering molten brownie cake, chocolate tiramisu and some really interesting cheesecake to finish.

Sutra seems to be doing a great job because the evening was a raving success and went absolutely glitch free.

XOXO

Summer day camp thriving at Casey

By Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Troth

jefferey.l.troth.mil@mail.mil

CAMP CASEY, South Korea – If you have kids in elementary school and want to give them a chance to attend summer day camp, Area I’s Camp Adventure offers games, field trips and other fun, while also helping youngsters learn how to get along with others and follow rules.

It’s held Monday through Friday at Camp Casey’s School Age Center, bldg. 2475. Costs range from $40 - $110 per week, on a sliding scale based on overall family income.

Camp Adventure is open to Area I youngsters in first through fifth grades, and allows parents to register their kids for one week at a time.

That way, parents can choose which sessions to send their children to, and don’t have to pay for weeks they may be on vacation or otherwise unable to have their children attend.

Each week’s schedule includes arts-and-crafts, a library visit and reading session, swimming and playground activities, a Wednesday field trip to such places as an amusement park, museum, or zoo.

“Camp is fun, going to the pool, going on all the field trips,” said 10-year old Senora Fontenot. “But, the funnest part is hanging out with all my friends.”

The counselors are college students drawn from a variety of schools, taking part in the Camp Adventure Youth Services, run by the University of Northern Iowa. The program holds the camps in various countries, and on U.S. military installations overseas. They get college credit, room and board for their work as summer counselors.

The Area I youngsters also get weekly visits from a counselor with the Army’s Military and Family Life Consultant program. Those sessions are geared to helping foster emotional well-being.

One recent session, for example, involved a game called “emotional bingo.”

Each child got a bingo-style card with the names of 24 emotions – “jealous” “delighted” “bored” “loving” for example.

Each then got a chance to tell of his or her experiences with one or more of those emotions.

“Each week we have different themes,” said Gia Murtucci, a Camp Adventure counselor who graduated from the California State University, Chico, with a degree in education.

“We did Wizard of Oz one week, an ocean theme, next week we’ll do Forty-Niners-Gold Rush theme,” she said.

“We really work with expanding creativity and specifically getting kids to socialize,” said Murtucci. “We work on behavioral management skills and learning how to cooperate and follow the rules.”

Camp Adventure is also designed to keep the children active and away from video games, she said.

To register children or for more information, call Area I Child, Youth and School Services at 730-3628 or 732-3468.

Here's draft 2 of this logo.

Our next sermon series, Thrive, is on the book of Acts and will go for a whole year. We're trying to create a logo for the series and then create seasonal bulletins using the one logo.

Boss man loves this version working in the suggestions from here on draft 1. He wants to add the tagline "The Acts of the Apostles" and I'm struggling with how best to do it. I tried it below "Thrive" right justified, but the vines looked funky with it, so I'm trying it above the T now. Any suggestions?

Thriving scene at Glasgow Cross in 1931. There's quite a mix of tramcars and carts in Argyle Street and a kilted soldier walking along the pavement.
