The Black Darter is Britain’s smallest resident dragonfly and one of the few that thrives in acidic bogs and heathlands. Males are mostly black with striking yellow side markings, while females are yellowish-brown with dark patterns. They are often seen basking on heather or rushes and fly late in the season, mainly from July to October.
dandelions are fierce: they find a way to live, even in no-light conditions. they’re beautiful, too, in their multi-stage ordinariness. even as i curse those in my flower beds, they remind me to slow down and pay attention. they know how to thrive.

Autumn is soon coming. The two floral photos that I am posting today show how different flowers react to that situation.

Unusually, this is not the recommended windlight setting - my fail. Blog post: tizzycanucci.com/?p=4757
I have enjoyed this patch of rose campion immensely. I have a fondness for plant "volunteers", in general. It "chose" a spot in the middle of the driveway. There's only a thin layer of soil before you hit gravel, so I shored it up with the bricks and stuffed some more dirt around it. It has thrived, and looks so pretty when the late afternoon sun makes the red blossoms glow.

A cluster of small orange mushrooms rises from the moss like lanterns glowing in the forest understory. These delicate fungi thrive in humid, shaded environments, breaking down fallen wood and returning nutrients to the soil—a quiet but essential part of the woodland ecosystem. Seen from ground level, their fragile stems and translucent caps form a miniature world almost hidden beneath the taller greenery above. A reminder that in the botanical realm, even the smallest forms play a vital role in the cycle of life.
Fun fact: Many bright orange forest mushrooms contain natural pigments called carotenoids—the same molecules that give carrots and autumn leaves their color. These pigments can help protect the fungus from UV radiation on rare sunny days penetrating the forest canopy.

This is what happens to chives (Allium schoenoprasum) if you let them do their thing. How nice that there is a common garden plant you can either sew and pick early for food, or instead let grow and then admire its beauty.

Gunner, the colt who was orphaned at nine days old is thriving. The surrogate mother they brought in for him, refused him, so he's been hand fed formula, until recently.
In medieval times the village of Lavenham in Suffolk was one of the richest in England. It thrived on the wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries when local merchants became very wealthy.
One the ways they could show their wealth was in the building of houses which .has resulted in the village having many half timbered properties that have stood the test of time over many centuries. There are over 200 grade 1 and grade 2 listed structures in the village today.
This house, known as Cordwainers, dates from circa 15th century and is located in the High Street. It is a timber frame and plastered building with grade 2 listed protection. In the past it was the One Bell Inn but is now a private house. I particularly like the different shapes and sizes of the timber beams, the colour of the plasterwork and the blocked up doorway on the right. A magnificent property!

Lizze must stay in the cage until her broken hind leg has healed.
She is slowly getting better, she uses her leg more and more every day and will soon have a bigger cage were she can train to walk.
Lizzie has shown fantastic patience so far and she has not been really angry a single time since she came home from the hospital. She thrives very well out on the balcony where she has a lot of birds and a wide view to watch.
The only problem is that she got an infection in a (very) small part of the surgical wound (it heals) and I have to give her antibiotics 3 times a day with a syringe in her mouth. And that really is not easy ...
Many thanks to everyone for your visits, comments and faves!
Very much appreciated!

Anza Borrego Desert State Park, California.
Desert flowers are little things. But when the time is right, they can be massive, thriving all over the seemly impossible place and blooming in your heart.
Dutchman's Pipe. Outrageous, strangely sexual, bizarre, plate-sized blossoms.
Dutchman’s pipe is a cold hardy deciduous vine that produces large, deep maroon, pipe shaped blooms. This plant thrives in full sun or partial shade and can easily be trained to form a hedge-like appearance.

Yellowstone National Park is known for its flows of boiling hot water. Which is appropriate, given that it sits on top of a super-volcano.
One of the effects this hot water has is that it is an environment that unique varieties of algae thrive in. In many cases, this algae has unusual and vibrant colors, in this case orange and green.

“It takes but one positive thought when given a chance to survive and thrive to overpower an entire army of negative thoughts.” - Robert H. Schuller

[Last weekend Kristi came to visit. We walked past this beautiful shriveled plant with its delicate peach-colored leaves. It was withering from the uncharacteristic lack of rain here in Washington, which broke my heart but also made me want to capture it in its unique beauty.
Unlike this firmly rooted plant, we have a choice to wither or thrive. Limited by circumstance much of the time, but armed with the power of the mind and heart, we can accomplish so, so much. In a world of negatives and nos and naysayers, it's easy to suppress ourselves. But I believe we each have a responsibility to rise above in ways small or great, to say no to those saying no to us, and to follow our dreams and hearts. Nobody will hold us accountable for following our dreams more so than we ourselves will. You owe it to you to believe in you and to follow through in that belief. Thrive, friends.]
Remember the baby Mistle Thrush I told you about that landed from nowhere on my back fence a few weeks ago... well I think this was him back to see me last night, and he seems to be doing well :-)

In the dense, green forests deep and wide,
The tiger roams with a regal stride.
Golden coat with ebony streaks,
A silent hunter, power it speaks.
Eyes like embers, sharp and keen,
Gliding through shadows, barely seen.
Each step measured, soft yet strong,
The jungle echoes its haunting song.
Guardian of the wild, fierce and free,
A symbol of nature's majesty.
Through mangroves dense, or grassy plains,
The tiger rules where wildness reigns.
Yet whispers tell of dwindling ground,
Of forests lost, no prey is found.
The king now fights a battle grim,
A world forgetting the need for him.
O mighty tiger, bold and true,
Your roar still calls, we must renew.
Protect the forests, let rivers run,
For life with you and us is one.
Let cubs frolic in twilight's glow,
Let jungles thrive where you bestow.
For when the tiger fades from sight,
The world will dim, robbed of its light.
For many, the Arctic is synonymous of a hostile environment and for most of the time, it is true. But each year, for a very short period the Arctic changes.
This extremely sensitive natural environment that is fully productive each year only for a few weeks enables survival of many different species unseen anywhere else in the world.
One can’t stress enough how important it is to protect this place and shield its environment from all types of destruction.
