A few days ago I posted pictures of oat shocks in the field. The next step after they have really dried is to thresh the oats. The owner of Freddie Mac grows about 15 acres of oats each year and the "old timers" gather in August to thresh. This is a small threshing machine that was used, most years a much larger machine is used.

We definitely have a feeling of autumn this Labor Day. The first weekend of September has me waking up to 43F and it feels a little nip outside. We will be moving back into the mid eighties this week

Notice all the belts on a threshing machine. It is not a very safe place for children unless they are carefully supervised. I can remember as a youngster being continually warned to stay away from the machine.

A forerunner of the combine harvester built by 'Dening' of Chard, agricultural engineers 1828 to 1965 and now in need of a little TLC.

The versatile ' walking tractor'.

Vista Gas and Steam Museum: Putting Oats into the threshing machine. The threshing machine, was first invented by Scottish mechanical engineer Andrew Meikle for use in agriculture. It was devised (c.1786) for the separation of grain from stalks and husks.

I visited the rural property of a local artisan and saw this hand-cranked threshing machine. The machine itself is ugly, but found these rusty mechanical abstracts within.

I've never used photomatix so I have to start somewhere.....more guidance and perseverance needed. It seems much too bright to me.

They used a binder on the horse farm to cut the oats. Three Amish men were hired to shock the bundles and ready them for threshing. The three men shocked the bundles in three hours. The threshing of the oats is scheduled for August 27 and they will use the work horses and a crew to haul the bundles to the threshing machine.

Loved this picture with the wheat straw flying as it is ejected from the old threshing machine. I had never watched one of these work before, so I found it interesting.

For the LEGO Star Wars - Galactic Conquest RPG

Faction Name: Jedi Order

Character Name: Thresh Nordon

Race: Human

Status: Jedi Youngling

Story:

When the Jedi found me I was six years old, alone, weak, and near death. While I have no memories of parents, the Jedi who found me said I kept muttering about a brother I needed to take care of. I wonder what happened to him....

Though I was weak and pathetic, the Jedi still managed to train me to being what I am today.

A Jedi Sentinel, and a particularly skilled one at that.

The Jedi trained me so I was adept with the force as well as light-saber combat, but my true talents were stealth and ingenuity.

I suppose those attributes are what contributed to me being a Jedi Sentinel.

I was the last youngling in my class to become a padawan, but that didn't stop me from trying my hardest to make it worth the trouble of finding me on my homeworld and saving me from death.

After three years of being a padawan, the Jedi sent me to be a padawan to a Jedi Sentinel, who ironically was the Jedi that found me.

Now I am a full fledged Jedi Sentinel, and as I have been told, one of the best.
