Stage three: we only had an hour to work on it, but Mario is doing a perfect job on the lake's shading. The tones and textures are just like those of a Japanese woodblock print.
In front of the Nelson-Atkins is one of the famous Shuttlecocks, and Henry Moore's "Three-Part Object".
From nelson-atkins.org:
"Henry Moore observed that “Three-Part Object is a strange work, even for me. Three similar forms are balanced at angles to each other. In my mind it has a connection with insect life, possibly centipedes. Each segment has a leg, and there is an element in the sculpture nearer to an animal organism than a human one.”

Three hares are we
as daughters, three
make we within our circle
with ears entwined
our pasts we bind
as fast to futures purple
existing in a trinity
of maidenly infinity
we move to crone from mother
as gracefully
as three who see
ourselves in one another.

Three young mice, nesting under some allotment junk...
I thought it may be a Dormouse nest but it would appear to be a Wood Mouse...
Then again it may be a Vole...not a mouse at all..
Scaled Quail inhabit the more arid areas of the West. These 3 were part of a covey of a dozen or more. Most of the time they were under the cholla cactus in the shade. Some locals refer to these as "cotton tops".
Although it was an overcast day with grey seas and skies, i still liked the arrangement of the three different boats here - an old fishing boat, a small pleasure yaght and a high-speed motorboat. Seen off the coast of St. Jean Cap Ferat.

The flight from Washington Dulles to Harrisburg, PA is only twenty minutes in the air. I sat next to a retired Marine Major en route. We had a great discussion about U.S. policy on security and the technological measures commonly instituted by the Department of Defense, that are often considered too "big brother" in the civilian world. He currently lives in Harrisburg, PA, and pointed out a few landmarks as we made the descent. On final approach we flew right over Three Mile Island.
I remember the incident from history class, but I was too young at the time it occurred to really get what was going on (1979). The Three Mile Island nuclear power plant had a core meltdown just as the political tension over such technology was at a fever pitch. Though nobody died, and the amount of radition received by the people in the area was no more than a chest x-ray, Three Mile Island was the last nuclear power plant ever built in the U.S.
