Warners started marketing this type of "giving" corset (where the material stretched, but kept it's form due to the weaving process) in 1907, and are the originators of the bra sizes we use to this day. A gorgeous example of mid-century design (approximately 1948). The lace is beautiful threadwork. Her bust is embellished with double chiffon that is stiff enough to stand, but soft enough to feel sublime! This was named the "Merry Widow" corset.

I took this photo in February...relieved to have finished these by the deadlines for submission to juried shows...and I am happy to say that all three were accepted...top left to the Ontario Juried Show in Kitchener, bottom left to the Canadian Juried show in Kamloops, BC...and then the one that pleases me the most...the one on the right...accepted today in Threadworks 2007 ..starting in May in the Wellington County Museum in Elora Ontario...then travelling to 15 other museums/galleries for the next 2 1/2 years, all over the province. I was refused in 2004 in the same show...it's a hard one to get into... so I am very pleased.
This one was done with four photos of fungi...transferred to fabric, then embroidered, quilted and beaded, and applied to a similarly fashioned background. I have posted individual pics of the 4 panels, if you are interested.
