Donated by NUTURING THREADS

Nurturing Threads who donated this fabric recently ceased trading after 10 years of selling Tabitha Foundation silk. Tabitha Foundation’s vision is to develop processes that enable people to actively make their own choices in alleviation of poverty.

This fabric is hand-woven, hand-dyed, silk. The dyed silk thread is spun by hand onto bobbins and spools of differering sizes ready for the setting up of the loom. This task is usually carried out underneath the village houses and often all members of the family are involved in some way. The silk thread is finally woven into plain or patterned silks. It takes one day to weave 1 metre of plain coloured silk. Patterned silks take longer depending on the complexity of the pattern. Weaving is only carried out by the most experienced. It is a skill that is passed from generation to generation – grandmothers teach mothers and mothers teach daughters the art of weaving.

Bored and looking for something to shoot so I thought I'd try a little macro tonight.

I've only seen two of these true bugs, both on my deck a few years apart.

Ayer ví la película "Threads". Uno agradece que la guerra fría haya acabado...

La foto en sí no me gusta mucho, quizás parte del cielo y poco más. Pero la luz del sol me recuerda en plan "destello a bomba nuclear".

I saw Chinese thread books online and fell in love. I was doing a zentangle project…and decided to combine the two. Origami and I are not the best of friends…yet…so I had to make SO many boxes to get what I wanted…and ended up with 3 books. The boxes open in different ways and are stacked on top of each other to hold thread, pattern pieces, small scissors, buttons…etc. SO much fun!

"The Owl Movement has four brand spankin' new shirts for sale.

This series seems to be a bit more owl oriented than the last couple. I'm not saying the last couple weren't any good, because they were. If you remember, I've made a post about them (Owl Movement) here before. My favorite from the new series, titled Owllelujah, is probably the one on the left. It's called Parliamentary Party and it's designed by Julian Glander. You can't really see it that well here, but it's an owl made from owls. I also like the brown one. But that might just be because I like brown shirts. I dunno.

The Owl Movement prints on American Apparel t's and all of these shirts are priced at the reasonalbe $20. They've also still got their sale going on where if you buy one shirt, you get the next for only $16 (2 shirts for $36) or if you buy four they're only $72. So you've got a reason to buy each one."

My mother-in-law has been saving fabric scraps and threads from all her sewing projects since the 70s. Some of these threads are much older than that that she got at an auction. They are all in such awesome condition. Wonder if any antiquers out there are looking for threads....
