Some of this thread is sooooo old, it is from Grant's Department Store from 1967 and it cost 20 cents!

Donated by NUTURING THREADS

Nurturing Threads who donated this fabric recently ceased trading after 10 years of selling Tabitha Foundation silk. Tabitha Foundation’s vision is to develop processes that enable people to actively make their own choices in alleviation of poverty.

This fabric is hand-woven, hand-dyed, silk. The dyed silk thread is spun by hand onto bobbins and spools of differering sizes ready for the setting up of the loom. This task is usually carried out underneath the village houses and often all members of the family are involved in some way. The silk thread is finally woven into plain or patterned silks. It takes one day to weave 1 metre of plain coloured silk. Patterned silks take longer depending on the complexity of the pattern. Weaving is only carried out by the most experienced. It is a skill that is passed from generation to generation – grandmothers teach mothers and mothers teach daughters the art of weaving.

My first attempt at an ATC. Very thick and about 1/4" too tall - would never fit in an album, but it was fun to make.

Free Pattern: Williamsburg Doily

First doily, took 1 1/2 months. Made with some red bedspread type thread I had. No idea what size, I think standard generic whatever Walmart sells that's red.

Gacys Threads Promo Shoot - 24/10/10

*** Assignment [Machinery]: Finalist #1 ***

On vacation, I mentioned to Chris' Aunt that my assignment was "machinery" and she lit up like a light bulb and took me downstairs to her workshop where she has tons of sewing and embroidery machines. This was a little old Singer, and I really like the way the colors reflected off the side of it [I had it sitting on brightly colored floor mats [yellow and red]. I thought the detailing on the knob was neat as well... I'm thinking about dusting off the old machine that I have, and trying out sewing some skirts!

Thread-waisted Wasp (Sphecidae, Ammophila procera) - Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, New Jersey

These guys are part of the digger wasp family, and use those long legs to hold their prey (until immobilized by their sting), and then drag it back to their underground lair where the female will lay her eggs on it for her little digger grubs to eat. The adults feed mainly on nectar, with butterfly weed being one of their favorites where they might even find a tasty caterpillar for the kids.

Finally making some progress here. I only had 2 of the 402 ends threaded until tonight. Still slow. I actually don't mind threading heddles but I haven't quite figured out good ergonomics for doing it on the Ideal.

I didn't followed the instructions... we were supposed to use a fabric with a light cotton pattern, so that it would be easy for us to trace the pattern on it. I realized it too late, so most of my stitching is made free handed, without a guide line. It's not bad for my first time.
