LOVE YOU STILL…

Far apart yet of one heart,

you are miles away yet it feels like I saw you today,

the thought of you fill my head

as I lay on my bed

and until time stand still

I will love you still.

Sweet night…

I heat up and I, I can't come down

I swear I'm spinning I'm on a merry go round

And I picked up a joy to my face

My heart beats faster than the regular pace and

I'm not sure of what it is

I asked my mother to help me with it

And she said daughter you've reached a jones

And that's pure loving so carry on

Come to my place

You know I'll be waiting for you

Cause I really need you so

You know I'll be waiting for you

Be on your way

You know I'll be waiting for you

And we can handle it real slow

You know I'll be waiting for you

You keep me thirsty licking my lips

I'm hungry for you to please my hips

And don't stop there prepare to sweat

I'm getting hotter and you ain't made it here yet

So won't you hurry make no haste

Cause you're the fruit I, I long to taste

And just in case I start before you reach me first

I've unlatched the door

window reflection, candid portrait. This image also documents my efforts of doing street photography and retaining the anonymity of the person photographed. Single exposure, in LR b/w conversion and increased blacks.

i’ve spent the last three days in “the archive”. Boxes within boxes and thousands of polaroids rubber banded together in stacks that go back a couple of decades to the years i spent in that gothic ramshackle of a train station near the river. rooms with twenty foot high ceilings, stalactites of paint and diffused window light - some of god's better work. A daily tide of quakers, rock stars and knapsacked travelers, screaming babies, hookers and sherpas decked out in cap and uniform. The lobby would swell to burst and then empty out again leaving only the few of us who called the building home plus the gaggle of schizos who called it home as well but were gently ushered out at the end of the day. It was like Petty Coat Junction meets Blade Runner, Armageddon meets Dodge City. It was heaven to me.

But everything changes. It began to show up in the surrounding neighborhood first. They tore down the viaducts. The warehouses became pricey loft projects. Then came up scale retail, chic restaurants followed by sports bars and sports fans. i knew my days were numbered when they broke ground on a new baseball stadium. i watched from my window for a few years and then moved out the day they began “renovation” on the station itself. What’s that song? “they paved paradise and put up a parking lot”.

i guess it’s all subjective. You can’t fight it. We’ve all seen it happen and the longer you stick around the more of it you’ll see.

When i moved out we rough counted a quarter of a million negs. i imagined a race between the archive and my old Volvo (miles on the odometer vs the number of negs). Which would accumulate more? the friendly competition lost its steam when i began to shoot digital effectively ending years of 2 or 3 rolls a day, that followed by the department of motor vehicles saying that my Volvo was no longer capable of passing emissions. Even though it was running fine i had to part it out. That was sad.

Photography is a lot about memory - what’s “behind us” - what’s “just” behind us and what’s “way” behind us.

Three days in the archive and i never found the Polaroid i went looking for but i found some others i’d forgotten about and found others that i don’t remember shooting of people i don’t remember ever having met. i can see my self in the images if you know what i mean. i just don’t remember the people or the circumstance.

i do remember this one. i was working and she was on vacation. She said she loved the theatre. i lied and said that i did too. Her coat was green.

…for those who are feeling sad this week.

The fresh wind that caresses your skin, the light of the full moon, the sound of the waves and many thoughts..
