I was sitting in my bed looking out at my pond when I noticed movement. No, that bright green patch isn't a leaf, it's an iguana visiting my orchids! So I ran for my camera and started shooting pictures. He stayed and stayed, then finally in a flash he was gone.

Iguana (/ɪˈɡwɑːnə/, Spanish: [iˈɣwana]) is a genus of omnivorous lizards native to tropical areas of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Iguanas can range from 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to 1.8 m) including their tail. The two species of lizard within the genus Iguana possess a dewlap, a row of spines running down their backs to their tails, and a tiny "third eye" on their heads. This light-sensing organ is known as the parietal eye, visible as a pale scale on the top of the head, and cannot make out details, just brightness. Behind their necks are small scales which resemble spokes, known as tuberculate scales. These scales may be a variety of colors and are not always visible from close distances. They have a large round scale on their cheeks known as a subtympanic shield.
The tympanum, the iguana's eardrum, is located above the subtympanic shield (or "earshield") behind each eye. Iguanas are often hard to spot because they blend into their surroundings. Their coloration enables them to hide from larger predators.

slingerdoo has got off the charts smarts. some think its genetics, others contend that its the copius amounts of reading he did as a young man. i think its something to do with his third eye. its a bit unnerving at first, especially when his other two are looking in one direction and that piercing third eye swings around and interrogates you with its spotlight glare. after a while though, you get used to it. warning though, you cant play card with him cause he will cheat like muther.

Rosary pea has been widely used in Florida as an ornamental plant for many years. The native range of rosary pea is India and parts of Asia, where this plant is used for various purposes. The roots of this plant are used to induce abortion and relieve abdominal discomfort. The seeds of this plant are so uniform in size and weight that they are used as standards in weight measurement. The seeds can also be used to make jewelry. Interestingly, one of the most deadly plant toxins, abrin, is produced by rosary pea (Abrus precatorius). Studies have shown that as little as 0.00015% of toxin per body weight will cause fatality in humans (a single seed). Interestingly, birds appear to be unaffected by the deadly toxin as they have been shown to readily disperse rosary pea seed.
Rosary pea is a small, high climbing vine with alternately compound leaves, 2-5 inches long, with 5 to 15 pairs of oblong leaflets. A key characteristic in identifying rosary pea is the lack of a terminal leaflet on the compound leaves. The flowers are small, pale, and violet to pink, clustered in leaf axils. The fruit is characteristic of a legume. The pod is oblong, flat and truncate shaped, roughly 1½ - 2 inches long. This seedpod curls back when it opens, revealing the seeds. The seeds are small, brilliant red with a black spot. These characteristics give the plant another common name of crab’s eyes.

Another shot from Sunday, this pose was slightly easier as I knew what I wanted to do. Although the gangs of young people hanging around made it a bit of a self-conscience exercise!
So, the last few uploads I have alluded to big changes that are taking place for me at the moment.
As I have mentioned in the past, in October I successfully got a promotion at work which was amazing! The job is an 18 month secondment which means my old job is held open for me in Chester whilst I work the lifetime of the secondment. However...2 weeks before Christmas, an unexpected email landed with the entire directorate outlined the proposed restructure for all of the various departments.
The upshot of it was my old job and (and department) was set for deletion.
This entire news left us all reeling, what did this mean? Who could we speak to? Why are they doing this?
According to the new structure I was set to be slotted into my secondment to see out the remaining 12 months but ultimately there was no job to return to.
I thought of everything, working through the rest of the 12 months, taking voluntary redundancy, applying for the new jobs created as part of the restructure (there are 2) it was such turmoil.
The whole of Christmas I wrestled with thoughts, every waking moment reverted back to work, all of my conversations ended in 'work' my dreams were of work colleagues!! I can bet no one was dreaming about me!
I actually hadn't appreciated how institutionalised I had become. In an attempt to claw back a semblance of sanity I wrote my CV, a task I haven't done for over 10 years.
And then I looked at myself on paper. OOo, who was this? A lovely career in Local Government...oh wait, hang on- it looks like it could be me.
Who had I become?
I have been doing some training with work around approaching community engagement in a different way, it is called Appreciative Enquiry. To keep it brief, one of the tasks to assist in the process involves engaging your subject in an informal chat to get them to remember a positive time, when it was all going well and life was good- how did you feel? What made it so good? What elements would you need to recreate that feeling now?
Slowly the subject will be able to untangle the areas they want to change and how this might look.
So, I did an Appreciative Enquiry on myself. And I couldn't remember the last time I was truly happy in work. The last time I had fun, that the team was relaxed and the energy flowed.
And right there and then, I realised I needed to take the voluntary redundancy.
And so, here I am now facing the unknown with a mixed sense of feeling, happy to know I am placing myself where I am going to be effective, but nervous about the unknown.
I still hang onto a quote my friend Teresa gave me in 2012: "Magic happens outside the comfort zone".
Here is to magical living.

"Green Iguana - Eye Contact" by Patti Deters. This striking portrait captures the impressive features of a Green Iguana (Iguana iguana), a species native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. These modern-day dragons are famous for their ability to navigate both the treetops and the water, often jumping from great heights into rivers to escape predators. Did you know that iguanas have a "third eye" on top of their heads?! Called a parietal eye, it can’t see shapes or colors but does allow them to sense changes in light to detect birds of prey that may be hovering above. It's the white scale/blob above the lizard's eye. Also notice the intricate textures of its scales - from the beaded patterns on its powerful legs to the peeling, papery skin. The large circular scale on its cheek, known as the subtympanic shield, serves as a "big eye" illusion. The large hanging flap of skin under the "big eye" is called a dewlap that, when extended, helps with the big scary look, and being filled with tiny blood vessels will quickly absorb heat from the sun. These prehistoric looking reptiles are really fascinating!! Thank you for viewing this picture. If you like outdoor nature photography, you can purchase or just enjoy looking at more animals and other wildlife images at patti-deters.pixels.com/featured/green-iguana-eye-contact....

Despero’s always been a fig I wanted to make ever since I got into Lego superheroes, and the red mohawk in the newest CMF series provided the means to complete my purist design. Admittedly he doesn’t have his third eye here, but there was a time in comics when it was surgically removed after he suffered bitter defeat at the hands of his fellow Kalanorians. Hence the bastardized MGS V quote.
