Operation AVRO is a forcewide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month.
This month saw the operation return to the City Of Manchester Division for the third time.
The operation targets crimes that members of the public in that district have told us give them the most concern.
Members of the press and key partners, including local representatives, are invited to attend Operation AVRO deployments to see results first-hand and conduct important multi-agency work, such as welfare visits.

You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.
Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.

Colin Lynch (St. John's... he's not on any of the YD rosters, so I had to do some internet sleuthery to work out what school he was from).
We'd like to say this is our very first outside pea sprouting triumphantly in the face of incessant winter, but that's not entirely correct. Is third pea. But the first two were in a kind of unphotographable spot, so this will have to do.

I wanted to make more pincushions, and used this nifty skull fabric for inspiration. (Alexander Henry design I think...) The bottom of the pincushion is red with large white polka dots. The skulls were baked and then decorated with fine tip Sharpie and then everything was given a clear coat of gloss.

So nice I had to buy it twice. Went and bought the Vinyl Box Set just to have it, unopened.
This is actually the title slide of my very nearly finished new AV. It is quite strange how you can take one photo that is not good enough (too much blurry bush in the forground), and by blending it into another image it becomes transformed into something quite artistic ????
The AV is a fairy-tale about the three Wedge-tailed Eagles in this photo, particularly the magnificent red female with her two suitors. I've called it "Flame" ... its only Chapter 1 ... and I've even written A SCRIPT !!!!!!! ... and I'm gunna narrate it ... yikes!
Anyway, as an exercise in the "third image" it has been highly useful. Pity my photography isn't good enough for a documentary ... it had to be a quirky fairytale in watercolour ... sigh! But I've had a lot of fun making it.
I like the way the two Eagles together are highlighted, while the third Eagle is dark in the tree. I haven't seen these Eagles since I had the four encounters with them.

The vast number of surviving Byzantine coins attests to the level of trade across the empire. Controlled and supervised by the emperor, the producers of coins took care to represent his authority and reflect his stature. Talented artists were recruited to engrave the dies (molds) used for the striking of coins. Emperors increasingly came to include their heirs and co-emperors on their coinage, as well as other family members or even earlier rulers. Coins were recognized, then as now, as small, portable works of art. With their inscriptions and images, Byzantine coins provide valuable documentation of historical events and a record of the physical appearance of the emperors. The coins shown here include the solidus, the basic gold coin of 24 karats; the tremissis, a gold coin of one-third the weight and value of the solidus; and the nomisma, which in the 10th century replaced the solidus as the standard gold coin.
