This is a horrible image and I don't care. I'm not even sure if it qualifies for this week's theme - thirds - but it's the best I have right now. I just didn't want to miss a week. This is me on an airplane trying to see my dad before he dies. FYI, he passed about 30 min after I got there. I still plan to continue with this project but I can't guarantee the quality of my future work right now. I'm sure you all will understand.

For our inaugural session we're very pleased to announce that Dr Mark Childs will be talking about "The role of identity, body image and body schema in supporting learning in immersive virtual worlds."
The presentation reports on the findings of a recently completed PhD study on learning in virtual worlds in which it was found that presence is of fundamental importance for learners’ positive experience and that presence develops through stages over time, linked to a developing virtual body image and schema. This presentation is an opportunity to review these ideas, challenge the findings and share your own experiences of learning in these environments.
Mark Childs is the Teaching Development Fellow for Elearning at Coventry University. He has a PhD from the Warwick Institute of Education; his doctoral thesis is Learners’ Experience of Presence in Immersive Virtual Worlds. In SL he is Gann McGann, who reaches his fifth rezzday in November.
