The Brijuni islands (also: Brioni Islands)
Only up until a few years ago, the islands were closed to the general public as they were the summer residence of President Tito and the top officials of the former Yugoslavia. Over the years, almost 100 foreign heads of state were received by Tito on the islands. Many film stars were also guests of Tito, including Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, and Gina Lollobrigida. Nowadays, the islands are open but the facilities are a bit rundown, as little money was spent on their upkeep after Tito's death. The group of islands consists of 2 larger ones and 12 smaller ones and they were given National Park status in 1983.
The largest island is Veli Brijun, at 1,700 acres (5.6 square km), and is 2km from the coast. It is especially green and is covered with Mediterranean vegetation. The island also has a safari park which is home to various animals, many of them given as gifts to President Tudjman, such as zebras, giraffes, bison, camels and deer. There are four hotels on the island and they are accessible from the port of Fazana, near Pula, by boat.

Another beautiful day outside. I was outside for hours this afternoon. I went out alone a second time and sat down and thought. I though about my wedding(whenever it may be, if this visa ever gets sorted out!), I though about the last year of my life, I thought about spring and how everything starts over again, I thought about flowers and bees and trees and green things, I thought about life. Then I looked up at the sky and thought about the fact that it is the same sky everywhere in the world...and wondered how many people were looking at the very same sky, and what they were thinking...
I combined the SSS Monday Challenge with the current SSS Flickr Challenge since both had stencils as a feature. I selected the diagonal row of the tic tac toe board (spray, stencil and stamp). I actually used the stencil to emboss the background panel. I went in with my current favorite Distress Ink combo (Blueprint Sketch, Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron) over top of the embossed pattern. Thinks to my MISTI, I wasn't afraid to try to stamp the sentiment over the uneven background. I inked a few wood veneer hearts with Peacock Feathers Distress Stain to add a little interest. It's so hard to capture in the picture, but I spritzed the entire card with a perfect pearls mist for some sparkle.
The challenge over at Less is More (simplylessismoore.blogspot.co.uk/) is also all about stencils. That's a hard one to keep CAS. And I never really know the line with CAS... but I'm thinking this would count? The stencil is subtle as a background, and it has the single focal point with the sentiment. Technically the white space isn't white... but it's still pretty simple? Assuming the hearts don't push it over the top?! Why isn't there a simple test of clean and simpleness?! :)
