The picture of this haunting 1967 Pontiac GTO and the 32’ Ford Hot Rod were recorded by your’s truly at a recent “cruise night” event. I use the word “haunting” in describing this beautiful GTO because I can’t get this “Goat” out of my mind.
The owner who I chatted with for a time while admiring his car indicated he was thinking strongly of selling the car and the price he threw out was definitely “in my ballpark”. Unfortunately, I have two situations forcing me think long and hard about buying it. Number 1, my age and number 2, my wife (not necessarily in that order). If I were even 10-12 years younger, my wife would just have to accept the fact of another car in the family………one with 380 horsepower, a 4-speed transmission and a sweet lopping, growling sound bubbling out its dual exhaust. There is lots more I could say about this car and the reason he is thinking of selling it but I’ll spare everyone the agony of a long story. Let me just wrap this up by saying that I have always wanted either a 66’ or 67’ GTO and this one is truly a beauty inside and out. My younger brother, Steve, God rest his soul, owned a 66’ Goat and I always lusted after that car (even though back then - the mid 70’s), I was heavily involved in racing my 1969 Nova).
Okay, okay folks you’all are probably thinking, jeeez, is this guy going to tell us his whole life story……….
So if you’re ever in Bassett, Nebraska stop by “Pete’s 66” right off the corner of Happy Days Street and Old School Road and give a “wave”.
