2. I am named after my mama's little brother, Dmitri.

3. My daddy loved to remind me that I was eligible for membership in the D.A.R. from his side of my family tree and if I joined, I would undoubtedly be the ONLY D.A.R. member in history whose maternal family included active Communist Party officials in Ukraine & Russia:)

4.I have a lizard tatoo on my left leg that I've never regretted.

5.I have books cluttering every room of my home, I used to read 3 or 4 a week, but since 1995 when my mama passed away, I've not been able to get through even a third of one.

16. I believe that life is tough and brutal and often cruel, but it also contains the possibility of great happiness if we can focus on accumulating moments of joy....a smile, a touch, a breeze on our faces, light seen shimmering on the leaves of a tree. I try not to miss a single moment.:)

I thought it would be fun to print off some postcards as a little gift when you order something from my shop. I also finally made myself new business cards. They are simple, to be sure, but I like simple. New spring summer clothing coming soon!

Still life in the studio

This is a Photoshop reworking (in the style made famous by David Hockney) of my recently posted shot:

Charlie is Her Darling

Obviously, unlike the work David Hockney...this is actually a single shot made to look as if it is composed of multiple shots.

I can only hope Katie doesn't want her modelling fee increased as a result of me producing this variation? You know how demanding top models can be (and Katie is very obviously a star!) :-)

Test Shot for a new motion piece we are making called Things Fall Apart...

Clarion Alley, San Francisco.

Un giorno d'inverno Berlino era scura scura,

e fredda, e ventosa, eppure commovente e pacata e accogliente.

"When the dog bites

When the bee stings

When I'm feeling sad

I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don't feel so bad"

Somehow i always end up alone

I love finding the little beautiful things while I am walking places. Flowers in Sacramento are some of my favorite things to find.

This is a pic of me when I got married just over a year ago. I haven't posted any pics of my wedding so I thought I'd choose this one.

1. I fight with my husband about who gets to sleep on the side of the bed closest to my son's cot. He always wants to, but I only let him every now and then. Before the baby came, it was actually Mick's side so he's used to being there. It's like who gets the window seat on a plane journey, only way better.

2. I hate/fear talking to people on the phone - even friends and family. I'll put off phoning people I really care about for weeks/months. Usually, once I do it I have no idea what I was so worried about. I think I need to see a face to help me work out how people are responding to what I say. Without a face, I feel uneasy.

3. When I was little I would secretly smear toothpaste on my arms before going to bed, then lick it off before going to sleep as a 'midnight feast'.

4. I love Nate so much, I could never have imagined loving someone like this before he arrived. It's a cliché, I know, but it's overused because it's so true.

5. I once threw myself down the stairs of our old victorian house wearing ten coats, (one on top of the other for padding) and a moterbike crash helmet. It was a drunken challenge carried out by the lads, and I think I was the only girl to do it. I am still quite proud. Really hurt my bum though...

6. I don't have a tattoo, but have always secretly fancied one. Mick isn't keen on them and my Mum wouldn't want me to have one. Up until now I've never loved anything enough to want it permanently marked on my body. But since having Nate, I'd quite like to have his name (Nathaniel) on me, in small but lush text somewhere discreet/hidden.

7. I am a starter, not a finisher, a dreamer not a doer. I must have literally hundreds of unfinished projects scattered around the house. I like to make lists of things to do but never complete them. I even tried to do that 101 things in 101 days and only ever got to think of about 70 things before the list bit the dust somewhere. For example, I have two quilts (one machine and one hand pieced), one knitted baby cardigan (newborn size so Nate can never wear it now!), one embriodery sampler, 2 crocheted blankets,2 altered books, several dolly dresses, countless paintings/sketches/journals/scrapbooks - all of which I haven't finished. I borrow books and films and read/watch half. And when you factor in all the things I buy (art and craft supplies/fabric etc) or save (tins/jars, images, photos, ephemera) intending to create something with them, it really becomes ridiculous. I feel like I am inspired by so many things that I'm already thinking about the next one before I can finish what I'm doing or planned to do. It really pees me off actually. Perhaps 2009 could be the year I organise my feckless self and complete them all. That would be nice. And in the meantime, if you lot could stop posting such interesting stuff...

8. My favourite band is Jane's Addiction.

9. I have a stong conviction that Mick and I are meant to be together and will be until one of us snuffs it. It's nice to feel like that. I never thought I'd trust someone who doesn't 'have to' love me that much.

10. I hated my old surname/maiden name, Bedwell, so much so that I used to dread telling people what it was. It sounds so much like something out of a Bond/Austin Powers movie (Felicity Shagwell??) that I was constantly ridiculed, even in job interviews! The really witty and original would ask, "Do you? Ahuh huh huh!?!"

No mate...I'm rubbish actually.

Thank god I'm now married and have become a very boring Mrs Carter. Also, if you spell my first name (Melissa) backwards, and then pronounce it phonetically, it's pretty damn close to asylum - assilem, see? This never failed to amuse my school friends. But what's in a name, eh? *L*

11. Now I'm older, I don't really like going out to socialise unless it is to someone's house! I hate it when it's too loud to hear what people are saying and you have to queue for hours just to get a drink. I much prefer a good house party/gathering.

12. Having a baby has made me a lot more anxious and stressed out than I used to be. I hadn't bargined on that, but with hindsight it's obvious it would. I was laid back by nature before, so don't enjoy feeling wound up all the time now. I worry I'm doing stuff wrong and messing him up somehow. I worry about him loads! He's happy, content, curious, loving and healthy so my rational brain tells me I must be doing something right but to date I haven't managed to shake the anxious feeling. My sister-in-law said she had a knot in her stomach for the first 6 months of her first child's life. I can relate to that. Only one more month to go then...I hope.

13. I want to have more babies. But not for a while.

14. I really don't want to go back to work in June, but think I'll have to, for a while at least. Need two incomes to get a decent mortgage and thus a bigger house. The idea of leaving Nate in daycare makes me feel sick. I know it'll be okay once I find a nice nursery and he's settled but it just feels horrible at present. :(

15. I really wish I had more time - but I guess everyone feels like that.

16. I always admit it when I fart. It's the safest way.

I wrote too much!

The photograph is not mine, but was taken by AJ , I have done the editing on this image, however.

I did a 16 things image some time ago, but things have changed and I have decided that the time is now right to revisit it.

16 things:

1. I have spent 34 years of my life feeling different and "at odds" with the world. I knew that I did not share the world view or thinking patterns of the majority of the people I came into contact with, but did not understand why, and was starting to believe that I was going mad. Every day I was hiding myself behind a facade of normality whilst knowing that the person other people saw was not me. I have now discovered, with the help of my friends, that I am not "mad" but merely different, and on the 15th November this year I was diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome , a form of Autism. I do not see this as a bad thing as i finally can begin to understand and accept my differences and to be proud of them as something which makes me an individual. My "normal" is probably not yours, but it is still normal!

2. I am in a polyamorous relationship, which means I have two partners. We are very happy together and are all very much in love. They are both talented guys and they understand and love my differences almost as much as I do. Lot's of people think that polyamory is something weird or that there must be something wrong with us, but I can assure you that that is not the case. In many ways I think poly relationships make a lot of sense as financial concerns are shared between more people and in the event of disagreements there is always a third person who can help to resolve things!

3. Yes, I am wearing a kilt! I have Irish ancestors and the kilt I am wearing is the Irish national tartan. I love wearing my kilt and feel it is a very practical garment. I enjoy going walking in it, despite the strange looks I get from other walkers!

4. In common with a lot of Aspergic people I prefer to be referred to as an "Aspie" rather that Aspergic or Autistic.

5. What I most like to be referred to as,though, is James,my real name, or Saesno, my flickr name. These names reflect who I am not "what" I am.

6. I have trouble telling some colours apart, so some shades of brown look green to me, and some shades of blue look purple. I have a fairly limited colour palette in my wardrobe so that I know everything will go together ok.

7. While other children had pop stars and actors as heroes, my heroes were Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Sherlock Holmes.

8. I love railways and will, if allowed to do so, talk endlessly about them. My favourite railway is The Ffestiniog Railway and I know a massive amount about its history and development.

9. I was able to hold a fairly reasonable conversation at the age of one, a fact which astounded my grandmother when I asked her for something I wanted. My mother has no idea that this was unusual, so only realised how advanced I was from other people.

10. I love reading and often escape for long periods into books. The longest time I have spent reading was about 7 hours, I think.

11. My favourite fiction authors are Terry Pratchett and Arthur Conan Doyle. I love non-fiction, especially histories and biographies. I love the Victorian period and read about it a lot. I believe it was a time when eccentricity, especially if coupled with ability in a certain field, was accepted and cultivated, allowing unusual people to thrive. I feel we could learn a lot from the Victorians about accepting certain kinds of difference, though I accept that their attitude to certain disabilities and illnesses also leaves a lot to be desired.

12. I have a mild form of face-blindness, and so I have learned to identify people I know by other means, using stance, dress and voice as pointers. I do not have pictures of people I know in my head, which makes it very difficult sometimes for me to describe people. I think that this is why I enjoy taking portraits as it gives me a "fixed" image of someone to refer back to.

13. I get into "food ruts" as i call them, and will become "stuck" on a certain food. I knew that this was happening when my local sandwich shop stopped asking me what I wanted for lunch and just made me my usual chicken sandwich with salad and mayonnaise!

14. I find it difficult to sustain friendships and so have lost a lot of people over the years by not making an effort to retain contact. I am now working on putting this right, and re-forging old links. I hope to hear from lots of people I miss.

15. I want to help others to have the support I have had, so next year I intend to walk Hadrian's Wall to raise money for the National Autistic society. I have intended to do this walk for years and never done it, so I want to carry through on my plans and turn the effort to good at the same time.

16. I believe that being an Aspie does not mean I am disabled, but means that I have different abilities to other people - I may not be able to look you in the eye without making a huge effort to do so, but I would be prepared to bet that my ability to absorb information and to remember things about subjects that interest me is way above average! I have my eccentricities and "tics" but they will not hold me back in moving on towards the future with a positive attitude.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my revised 16 things. I intend to produce more of them as things change for me as it is a wonderfully cathartic exercise.

I *love" funny and clever mash-ups.

And I had far too much fun adding in the magic spells (runic circle brushes), a digital background (fan art of the "Upside Down" world of Stranger Things) and run through Nik Software's Analog Efex Pro to give it a 1980's film camera feel.

TEN THINGS about me and photography

1 A year ago my profile pic was born on New Year's day on Gran Canaria... as the locals celebrated New Year with fireworks I took a picture which is now my profile picture!

2 When taking a photograph of some iconic object I like to take a photograph which tells the story without having to show of all the image but yet it is still instantly recognisable: for example this www.flickr.com/photos/aidanmcmichael/3945604670/in/set-72...

3 In 1997 I took a year long photography course - every Tuesday evening at Belfast Met College ...it had some theory thrown in but this was just about of a book ...I was really interested in the practical side so I borrowed my brother's manual SLR - we had to cover topics such as 'atmosphere'... my portfolio for that topic included: pictures of sky, balloons and wind turbines! For the topic 'colour' I took pics of my nephews for their red hair! I'd do it all differently if I was doing it now - of course ..but I got my 'City and Guilds' qualification anyway!!

4 My cat Tori - a chocolate Burmese wakes me every morning at 7.30 sharp. I'm sure my neighbours hear her squawking..and yes I do let her in and she tries to get in under the duvet - often with much success! She produced these wonderful paw prints for me to discover a couple of years ago in the snow www.flickr.com/photos/aidanmcmichael/2235860447/in/set-72...

5 My interests in my early working career were scientific in nature - I used several techniques for taking photographs including taking photographs of a cross section of a grass blade mounted on glass slides using a microscope and high resolution details inside plant cells using a camera mounted on a scanning electron microscope. Both of these helped me understand the print media and B&W photography....in those days we all had to develop our own prints. I loved the dark room...in the 1980s and '90s I had to use 'Kodak Blue' for making slides for presentations - this involved printing the text for the presentation on white paper then photographing them one by one with Kodak Blue and then developing the film myself using a sealed black drum with a twisting mechanism to remove the film from its casing....then mounting the processed film into plastic slide frames and then on into the carousel for projecting! Can you image what it was like to make a spelling mistake ...if anyone complains about Microsoft Powerpoint again - hit them!!!

6 I'm facinated by Robert Welch the 19th Century Belfast Photographer. As an antiquarian and naturalist he has taught me a lot about my own local history - through his images we can see what remains of a time gone by - much to my surprise I find I have delivered lectures on Welch to various clubs and societies, including the Belfast Naturalist Field Club of which Welch was president, and I have the Belfast Titanic Society in my diary for September 2010 (Welch was the official photographer for Titanic's Ship Builder, Harland and Wolfe, and recorded all of the world famous pictures of Titanic being built and being fitted out!).

7 One of my earliest memories is the advent of the Polaroid Instant print camera - this used "pack film," which required the photographer to pull the film out of the camera for development, then peel apart the positive from the negative at the end of the developing process! I can remember as a 5 or 6 year old being in my grandmother's back yard where my father used a Polaroid pre SX 70 (cant remember the exact model). There was disbelief as my father www.flickr.com/photos/aidanmcmichael/1268352559/in/set-72... tore back the paper cover after the requisite seconds had elapsed, to see the developed image before our very eyes. Colours didnt seem to be true and it was very flat but it was nevertheless amazing to see. Later, I remember my father taking photographs in the form of slides, ektachrome 35mm - as a child I was always facinated with the intense colour and clarity of the slides which he kept in a bit of a jumble in an old box. I dont remember that we had a light box - a 'to do' for 2010 is to get these digitised!

8 I remember how I heard about Flickr - I was receiving physiotheraphy... so was flat on my back in traction - the physio used to turn on the radio and just as I was falling asleep my session would be over and I would be rudely awakened. Anyway I was lying back one day listening to the radio - must have been BBC Radio 4, I always asked for 'talk' radio as her choice of music stations was awful! As I lay dozing and having my spine pulled apart I heard the word flickr...flickr...flickr...and that was that!

9 I remember my first digital camera which led to my first digital pics going on flickr. I was in New York, Manhattan in December 2004. I had a little camera from a few years earlier, a mini camera, I think it was described as - the first phase of camera size reduction at the turn of the century! Anyhow...it broke while I was in NY! So I browsed all the electronic shops from Times Square to Mid Town and found a good enough deal..a Konica Minolta Dimage Z10. I just loved the shape of it as I knew little about the technical spec...that very evening I disposed of my camera box and strung it round my neck and later as I ascended the lift to the top of the Empire State Building! I was just as awe struck as I was my first time there in '96. This time I was there to digitise! My memory is that I was knocked about all over the place as everyone jostled for relatively limited viewing space - but in the end I got my pics then and I get them now! www.flickr.com/photos/aidanmcmichael/115979526/in/set-721...

10 People rarely comment as I take pictures - last year as I took a picture of a shop front the owner came out and asked if he could have a copy (later I emailed it too him), But it was the first time I had thought about how easy it was to take a digital image but yet there are people out there who either dont know how to do it, or dont have a camera or a camera phone. I found the shop owner amazed by how I wanted to take a picture - maybe he was flattered in some way - anyway I was glad to be of help www.flickr.com/photos/aidanmcmichael/4072861772/in/set-72... I didnt buy any of the Titanic Town Sweets on sale!

Near Clifton Hill, Niagara's best attractions, and niagara falls best hotels, Nightmares is at the top of the best fun things to do in Niagara Falls for family, kids, couples, anyone!

Forgive me for the bad translation,i'm not good in english.

I love food and let's face it,the food in Italy isn't just a meal but is love, family and traditions. The food prepared by mom or by grandmother will always be the best things in the world, just because are cooked with love and passion for the good things.

I love photography and I love the food and what is better than to have them both together?

For me this is love.

I get wildly enthusiastic

about little things...

I play with leaves,

I skip down the street & run

against the wind.

Decorating for Halloween is something I look forward to each year.

With the recent addition of a kitty to our family things have been scaled back a bit, but these two towering lights of sparkling wonder are safe and have a prominent place in our tv room where they can glow in peace and WOW all guests who come to visit.

Happy Haunting to all who enjoy this seasonal fun!
