Another angle on glorious Sainte-Chapelle
A Reader's Digest article about La Sainte-Chapelle introduced me to the phrase “thin place”. They go on to explain its meaning in this way. “A thin place,” is a place where the boundary between heaven and earth is especially thin. It’s a place where we can sense the divine more readily.”
For me, it certainly was a highlight of my trip to Paris.
The Sainte-Chapelle is a royal medieval Gothic chapel, located near the Palais de la Cité, on the Île de la Cité in the heart of Paris, France.
Begun some time after 1239 and consecrated on 26 April 1248, the Sainte-Chapelle is considered among the highest achievements of the Rayonnant period of Gothic architecture. Its erection was commissioned by King Louis IX of France to house his collection of Passion Relics, including Christ's Crown of Thorns - one of the most important relics in medieval Christendom.
Along with the Conciergerie, the Sainte-Chapelle is one of the earliest surviving buildings of the Capetian royal palace on the Île de la Cité. Although damaged during the French revolution, and restored in the 19th century, it retains one of the most extensive in-situ collections of 13th-century stained glass anywhere in the world.

My first rock concert back in 1982. Thin Lizzy live in Holstebro.
The picture was taken with my old Minolta X-300, with a Hanimex 200mm lens. The film used was an Ilford XP1, exposed as 3200 asa.
photos are subject to many interpretations and it can even manipulate the truth, the photo above proves it. without any text from the photographers (but most of the time i prefer to left the photo as it is), people draw their conclusions from what they see.
the story of this particular photo is that the lady is asking directions from the police of a nearby restaurant because the roads are closed due to a rally (public manifestation). taken during the premiere of "carmen" at teatro della scala.
it was my first time to be in the middle of a rally (mere coincidence) and as im posting this on flickr i come to realize that taking picture comes great responsibility.
I have always gotten excited when I see the first snowfall. ....and today I got that same buzz even though it was just a thin layer of slush.
I dashed out straight away, wanting to feel the cold on my feet, but moreover to be the one to make the only footprints in said slush. I wanted just my footsteps away from my camera showing.
Childhood snow days were ace, when I'd wake up to that strange light, that let you know before you even opened your curtains, that your garden was covered with that white blanket that made everything look fresh and clean. Then you'd go out and muck about in it til your hands were red.
If I had had a longer sleep in this morning I would have missed this moment, as it didn't hang around very long. I stood and watched it melt a while, it made a soothing crackle as the rain in the air hit the slush on the decking.
I love that some days my ideas are just spontaneous, guided by what I see or how I feel, like today.
