The thin ice on the edges of a swiftly moving creek made for some great pictures. I loved the abstract look here, with the quartz rocks and green slime on the creek bottom and the hard-edged ice above, with rainbow reflections.

Pancake is enjoying the challenge of learning and testing the various properties of a newly discovered ice pond with it's sounds, echoes, textures and weight limits. She's quite agile considering the length of her legs and is becoming a skilled ice navigator. She's a smart dog.

It was a perfect socal winter Sunset--warm out with a bit of wind and a low-tide. We caught the Malibu magic hour in January!

It's not easy to photograph this thin and unquiet guy...It was the best I could do.
A slight skiff of snow was on the ground this morning as we crawled out of bed. When we headed into the town of Glennallen, we passed Plumb Bob Lake and noticed a lone trumpeter swan, a majestic sight, making its way through the thin ice. I am sure the migrators will be doing just that, migrating before too long. I will be sad to see these beautiful birds leave, and I can't wait for their return in the Spring.
