GIRLS' THEORY: ME-SEARCH RESEARCH was produced in a year-long workshop with girls aged 14-17, using the media to explore their own lives and the world around them. In their own voices, the girls cover topics such as violence, stereotypes of women, sex, relationships, reputation, and the future.
OK, it was now time to think Amtrak! Every afternoon there’s what I call the “Amtrak rush” when in theory all four Amtrak long distance trains arrive and depart Chicago within a short time of each other. I was big on catching the outbound trains today, the time change was coming up and while that wouldn’t move them to after dark, long shadows would become a huge issue. One a bit of good news; The Amtrak agent announced that the outbound Cal Zephyr had departed Union Station on time, a rarity as of late as it’s been held regularly for delayed eastern connections. I even had an arrival time; 02:34, so I made my way down to the eastern end of the platform. Since the Zephyr and the Southwest Chief essentially look alike I wanted to catch them at very different locations, so my plan was east end for the Zephyr, west end for the Chief.
I camped out on one of the benches in front of the depot where I was once again serenaded by Shouting Man, who I suspect had been exiled to the platform for being irritating; unfortunately he seemed to take it as license to shout even louder! Oh come on guy, just shut up! I did my best to tune him out, but I can tell you that I greeted the Cal Zephyr with great relief!

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can fool the Teapublican base ALL of the time because they WANT to be fooled.
They will rise to expectations. Did a demo lesson today on how to use "stop and jot" notes while reading to build theories to write about and explain in their reading notebook.

Ralph Waldo Emerson. The happiest man is he who learns from nature the lesson of worship.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca: On entering a temple we assume all signs of reverence. How much more reverent then should we be before the heavenly bodies, the stars, the very nature of God!
John Muir: All the wild world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go, to highlands or lowlands, woods or plains, on the sea or land or down among the crystals of waves or high in a balloon in the sky; through all the climates, hot or cold, storms and calms, everywhere and always we are in God's eternal beauty and love. So universally true is this, the spot where we chance to be always seems the best.

Unlike The Original SimonB, who has been rebuilding Lego models from sets he had as a child, I've gone for the latest offering from Lego which I was told was released yesterday. Looking on-line, a YouTube video was made very quickly as August 1st was the announced release date!
It is a stunningly detailed model, and is the only Lego set where I've finished building it and been uncertain if the left over pile of small bricks are just spares or indicate I've missed something.
Newcastle based band, Great Man Theory, opened up with 'The Horse' which builds up after a slow start into a glorious noise as the band get really hit the pace. going. Guitarist Rob Jarvis plays a great echoey riff as vocalist James Smithells does his best to get the crowd involved although judging by the reaction there may still be a few hangovers lingering from the previous nights shenanigans. Smithells short vocal passages are good and he really stretches his voice during some of the longer notes. The instrumental mid-section gives the band a chance to show the crowd what they can do and it’s a promising start from them. 'Riverblind' is up next with its stop-start intro and Smithells has a somewhat easier time of it with this one vocally. The track has a heavy groove with Jarvis pulling out a great solo which ebbs and floors in between a rolling drum beat from Matt Absolon. The bands chosen cover song, 'Fat Bottomed Girls' by Queen, was the least impressive of all the tracks here. Don’t get me wrong, it was a competent cover, but the vocals during the chorus didn't really mix that well but like I said, it was competent. 'What Is Mine' (the first track on their EP) was altogether a better performance – fast and furious from the get go, the twin guitar sound worked really well and made up for the slightly lacklustre cover.

The shoot was inspired by the autumn warmth , bringing action to the earthy colors and vintage styling of this season. The garments were carefully selected and put together to highlight the eye catching red bow tie and Product Red Monsterbeat headphones; Levi tapered denim and a clean cut shirt from the Zara Man collection sits wonderfully underneath the vinatage styled cotton cardigan with elbow patches and hand knitted scarf, the footwear is from supra to give the look more of a trendy edge.
