Clothing design for Halloween. A cute crow with a big yellow beak sits on a human skull. The background is an abstract pattern of orange and yellow squares and falling leaves.
The White Pass and Yukon narrow guage railway once brought prospectors all the way from Canada to Skagway. Now, only a small part of the line is running, but it really gives a sense of what an amazing engineering feat this line was, climbing up from Skagway along beautiful ravines and gorges, crossing creeks and waterfalls as it climbs.
Here is the train crossing the Skagway River heading toward White Pass, north of Skagway.
There aren't too many of these classic narrow cabbed T45 tractor units left on the road in the UK, and this South Western Electricity Board Leyland Cruiser 16.23 E937MEU is another top-notch & faithful restoration from East Devon's no.1 AEC & Leyland restorer!

Autumn magic in a Hertfordshire woodland.I went on a fungi hunt, but didn't see any today. Although thr path was a bit muddy, I think the season has been a little too dry for this woodland yet.

This is a random press of the shutter from the depths of The Fall moshpit, last Saturday night, Manchester. Yet another beer glass had just landed on my head (plastic of course in this age of H+S). My left foot was glued to the floor by some glutinous unknown substance. My right leg was flailing wildly without any semblance to 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Arms went up. Beer came down. Oh what a night..............
So, Mark E + The Fall third entry onto the jukebox are also the first outfit to make it two-in-a-row. Drop a coin in the slot :

The first killing frost of the season. The temperature fell to minus six Celsius overnight and even the hardiest of the late sunflowers fell too. Time to find the heavier jacket I guess.

Little bit of time to kill yesterday in The Falls. Clifton Hill is always great for colour and vibrancy. Now, it isn't even near peak tourist season but, even so, the streets are usually a little busier. Thanks to the strange times we all are living in at the moment, it was practically deserted.
Signs on the shops on Clifton Hill. The best part of Niagara Falls in my opinion.
Like a circus up there.

Having snapped "Pexford Pic" at Gauxholme, it seemed rude not to wait the extra half-hour and snap the freight behind it, the 8.59am Redcar Bulk Terminal - Fiddlers Ferry PS (6M17), especially seeing as it was a relatively rare coal movement. In this instance GBRf Shed 66701 is doing the honours.
Given the lack of time, I simply opted to drop down Pexford Road (which can be seen on the left of the image) and head up the footpath on the other side to the more traditional overlook.
In the foreground is the Rochdale Canal, which has the dubious honour of being the second highest canal in England at exactly 600' (183m) elevation on the stretch between West Summit and Longlees. That section lies a couple of miles behind me where the canal passes over the shoulder of the hill through which the railway burrows via the more well-known (to railfans at least) Summit Tunnel. With around 19 locks between the summit and Todmorden, visible in the distance, anyone navigating this stretch can be sure of a decent workout.

# aka WTF?
# Another Mr. TRONA in the remix this week with a Halloween theme, and I can't exactly say why...... no, not the Ministry song or even pining for free candy, or an excuse to Watch Arsenic & Old Lace. Tis warming up for summer, the uni-season essentially of Texas, and I miss living in an area of this pale blue dot where there still are distinct seasons, particularly the fall! I still hold on to the notion of moving to Chile when my region for now heats up in order to experience two autumns each year, the opposite of course of the famous endless summer zealously pursued by so many surfers, et al. Don't mind my mild seasonal depression, though. I'll make it to the Arctic or Antarctic some season soon to conduct my Atmospheric/Auroral sciences research in person and not via laptop from south central Texas! The Aurora will no doubt be visible this far south agIn, as it was, for instance, on October 29, 2003. But those are anomalies. and I need a spot like Syowa, or anywhere in Iceland, Northern Finland, Norway. Sweden, or even Poker Flat, Alaska, where direct access to geomagnetic storms and their impact is more the rule, and where Christmas doesn't feel like the fourth of [censored by Flickr/Yahoo!] July! ;-}
# Thank you for taking a look at this and other recent posts created rapidamente, an outlet for anxiety, et al., and I met some smart, cool people who helped me to better cope/manage/et al. Such symptoms that can at times be debilitating, really [psst... thanks, incidentally! =]. Oh, and of course I appreciate the visit. Skäl! 8^)!
# Psst. You'll be exhausted after all your planning for a Southern Hemisphere excursion! Not to worry! Stop by Abby and Martha's for some homemade Elderberry wine. Permanent cure for stress! Hahahahahahahahaha! Oops. Apologies. Giddy with all the mayhem I have to look forward to! Give my best to the girls! Hahahaha. Right. Sorry. Um, bottoms up!

As you walk around the lake there is a grotto from which you get some beautiful views especially at this time of the year.
The Grotto, commissioned by Henry Hoare and built by Henry Flitcroft, was constructed in 1748. It is a large domed rocky chamber with anterooms lined with flint, pebbles and tufa.
One of the major public parks in Central London at the start of the Autumn season.

How did it go? Yesterday was not that chaotic, surprisingly, so on the brighter note I will go back to the last weeks supermoon rise. I strongly feel that events like this one should actually draw our full attention. Not that often, if ever, some of us get to see sun rushing down on one side of the river and supermoon soaring up on the other, while both equally cast their light on the city! So for those of you who might never experience something like this, take a moment and enjoy. What do you think?
Ég var að mála þessa mynd í morgun um leið og ég hlustaði á fréttirnar um efnahagsástandið hér og um allan heim. Ekki veit ég hversvegna gömul þjóðsaga um Paradís var mér svona hugleikin. / I was painting this picture this morning while I were listening to the news about the financial crisis here in Iceland and all over the world. I don´t know why the old legend about Paradise and all that came into my mind.
