this is as I learn color processing.

shot in low light on a rainy cold day with the dogs around the wood stove which is to the right.

I should have put this on a tripod but I shot quickly and my hands shake.

the film is CineStill 800T, the "t" is for tungsten. low light.

tungsten film was originally introduced to give accurate colors for photographers who shoot indoors in low light.

so the colors in this photo are more accurate than you will see when I took it outside and forgot to adjust for the 800 ISO.

duh.

I will post some shortly.

and I will eat no more forever... or... well...

**I did one more that I'm saving for polaroid week the end of next october.

Listen, good dog, I gotta tell ya... I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico! No, wait, that's not it... Oh, yeah... I just turned thirty-eight weeks old today, Thursday, May 4, 2006! Ain't it cool?

Every autumn, we gather the horses from the highlands. It’s a tradition that reminds us of nature’s power and the unbreakable bond between humans and their animals.

But this time, something was different. When the dust settled and the herd stood safely in the corral, one was missing. My stubborn grullo stallion, Loke, was nowhere to be seen.

I followed the trail along the river, where the water rushed down from the mountains. The cliffs rose steeply, and the wind carried the distant roar of a waterfall. And there he was – a dark shadow against the white spray. Free, wild… yet still mine.

I placed my hand gently on his muzzle as i gently slipped the rope halter on and laid the rope around his neck as I whispered: “It’s time, old boy. Let’s go home.”

Another from Yuma, Arizona. The old Hotel Del Sol with a great ghost sign.

Looby-Loo's first ever day at the seaside. The weather wasn't great but that was never going to get in the way of manic fun.

Chasing waves. Being scared of waves when they chase back. Chasing seagulls, unless they go out to sea. Being out of your depth 2 feet from the edge. Discovering that puddles on a beach are not thirst quenching. But seaweed is great for carrying around with an air of importance. And so on...

“Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.” Helen Keller

That was the theme this week... This wasn't my initial idea but then I thought about how our dog is a total routine dog,do not mess with her routine ! This is her about to settle into her first sun spot of the day...

...Missions with Andre Govia and Rusty Dawg....

My sun loving dog...Amber follows the sun around the house, with the sunny weather we've had she's been a happy dog ! If you can't find her you just need to follow the sun.

Such a beautiful day and I had so many to choose from. I went with this one because she was indeed a happy dog... She came on a run with me,then she got to chase squirrels in the garden and then for the first time in months she got to sleep in the sun on the deck...It really is a dogs life !

My camera and flash had been sitting downstairs on the table and the fiance decided she wanted some new, "cute" pictures of the pug. I attached the 430ex w/ LightSphere to my pocket wizards and handheld it off camera left, dialed the camera to f1.2 and started shooting.

Oh, and yes, there is a treat hanging right next to my lens to grab is undivided attention

Newcastle Brown, the classic Tyneside favourite, being enjoyed on the banks of the Colorado River, in Nevada.

Scandalously, thanks to a succession of corporate consolidations, Newcastle Brown is no longer brewed in its spiritual home city. My pint came from California, not too many miles from where I was enjoying it.

I emailed this pic to a Geordie friend, himself an ex-pat, but based in Ontario. He reminded me that the local nickname for Newcastle Brown was “Dog”. Its 4.7% ABV is strong by English standards, although most US beers are 5% or more, but it had to be treated with respect.

There was one ward in Newcastle General Hospital that was dedicated to treating folk who had drunk a surfeit of the stuff over time. Another Geordie friend had a magistrate father. He told me how the Sessions would be full every Monday, with folk pleading in mitigation, “It were the beer”.

Lisette accompanies us on our boating outing to document the current beauty of the Florida Keys, in case the oil spill causes damage. We are all hoping for a miracle. Lisette seemed to understand the seriousness of our mission. Her mood was very different this past week-end. The weather was glorious and clear, many still water moments, a wonderful gift. We love our fragile Florida Keys environment, with blue skies, sunny days, clear Bay and ocean waters, seagrass, manatees which come right up to our dock, dolphins, fish, birds, ya da ya da. Photo in second comment below has more info about the oil spill problem.

See my set: www.flickr.com/photos/louiselindsay/sets/72157623908516435/, documenting photos of the beauty here before the oil spill effects reach us. Please send your best healing energies to the earth here, hoping there will be no "after" pictures. Please come viist Florida, and enjoy its beauty. The oil spill is not affecting us right now, and hopefully will never.

For those interested, more info on all sorts of things about the oil spill, news reports, things to do, photo documentation in this Flickr group: www.nps.gov/guis/naturescience/seagrass-beds.htm Gulf of Mexico Wildlife- Before the Oil Spill

And the National Park Service gives much information on all that has been and might be affected, ways to help, up-dates on what is being done here: www.nps.gov/aboutus/oil-spill-response.htm

The US Dept. of the Interior has great up to the minute reporting, with ways to report any damage observed, how to get them your ideas of any technology of what might help, a summary of all the sates and areas affected, how to volunteer help, or vessels, etc.—here: www.doi.gov/deepwaterhorizon/index.cfm Obviously no one knows how to fix this mess right now, but if we all pull our resources, and spread the word, I believe in the power of our human community to accomplish great things. Please spread the word to all you can, if you are willing.

Open to all critiques of this and all my photo-- I want to learn more and really welcome criticla feedback. ORiginal, with only slight exposure enhancement, posted in first comment below. Can't decide which version I like better. I like the guard rail, as it's parallel with LIsette's face, and it tells more of the story, but I also find it to be a distraction for the eye-- so can't figure out which version works best. I chose this one.

And good news. Two of my dog photos were accepted into a juried art gallery exhibit in Groton, New York, at the Main Street Gallery, and are posted also in the first comment below. I am so honored and thrilled, but now am also busy with printing, framing and shipping. They are going to be limited editions of 30, so if anyone else wants to buy any, let me know soon through Flickr mail or through the gallery. (Info on my profile page also.)

My puppy Jake is feeling better- sick again, but more vet visits, medication, TLC, etc. I watch him like a hawk-- he almost never eats anything other than dog food. Once comfortis set off his stomach and digestive track. I think maybe our stress this past week-end added to the problem this time. No more dog parks for awhile, even though he's good at playing and focuses on thedogs, not on eating stuff. Only filtered water and his dog food for now.

Taken 5/8/10, Uploaded 5/10/10, # 4927, was SOOC with slight Exposure adjustment, but then in this version I decided to erase the boat guard rail

Really, really wanting that treat she knows I have in my hand.

Taken with a friend's Digital Rebel XT. It's nice, but I like the look, feel and functionality of my Nikon. The thing that annoyed me the most is that you have to push a button before being able to change the focus point area with the arrows. Kind of counter productive.

It's also a bit on the "electronic" side for me. I don't like all of the electronic sounds it makes or the sound of the shutter. Petty complaints, I know. But it helped reinforce how much I love Nikon.

Hikkaduwa Ford. The story.

This guy, Hikkaduwa Ford or his more formal name Mr Ford, has a bit of a story. He is a beach dog in the town of Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka, mostly fending for himself when we met him five years ago. He had come to the beach just after the 2004 Tsunami and was still young. He was hungry and street (beach) wise but jumped at the affection and attention. It was also probably the first time he had played in his life – normally life was serious and centered around survival. We didn’t give him too much of anything because we knew he would have to fend for himself when we left the country, so as tough as it was, we couldn’t allow him to be reliant on us. Anyway we left Sri Lanka and came back a full year later. When we returned we rushed to the same spot we had last seen him. Sherylee gave her signature whistle and we waited. We were just hoping that he may still be alive although it was unlikely. It is not easy for a dog to survive on his own anywhere in the world and certainly not easy in Sri Lanka. Suddenly and miraculously, from over the back of the dunes we saw his head emerge and he came bolting down the beach – everything went into slow motion and I thought I could hear the music from Chariots of Fire. After the mad frenzy of greeting (he certainly had not forgotten us) we looked at him but, could hardly believe what we saw. He was knocking on heaven’s door. He was totally covered with mange (hardly any fur left), covered in sores, was sick and at the point of starvation. He probably only had a week or so left in him. It was then that we committed to always look after him. After months of care, pork chops, sausages and spaghetti he was back to health. He loves to wander about the whole length of the beach like he owns it. In the last three years he has had numerous run-ins with gangs of dogs on the beach as they ferociously protect their patch of the beach – he doesn’t really have a mean streak and so sometimes they get the better of him. So much so that some people in the area have nicknamed him Scarface. Also not long after we returned it looked like he may never be able to run or walk properly again. He was badly injured after being hit by a speeding tuk-tuk. Luck was on his side though and we took him to a fantastic vet in the Colombo capital who saved his bacon and his legs. He now cruises the beach daily and is reknowned in Hikkaduwa – the White Dog. We call him Hikkaduwa Ford. He is free to come and go at our place. He calls in (especially around dinner time) and sleeps over regularly. But, a lot of the time he just roams back down to the beach where his other world belongs. So if you ever go to Hikkaduwa, check out the beach to see if there is a white dog gazing out to sea - good chance it will be this guy, Hikkaduwa Ford.
