For the holidays we received an exquisite flower arrangement from some dear friends. I decided to add two macro filters to my Lensbaby lens to create this shot. I tried a bunch of different images but struggled to get good focus and an interesting composition. It is still a learning process, I admire the beauty that others can create.

These are bits and pieces of three clematis blossoms that my son donated to my project. He has been so generous by letting me collect flowers from his yard. This entry is 58/100. I am glad I still have a little less than half of my project left. There is still much to explore and discover, I love the whole process.

I spent the morning creating a "stencil" for the vw bus. I like how one side looks like the bus but the other looks as if it could be a skull. Maybe I'll try more drawing but because I am working mostly in the dark it is hard to look at something and draw it in light.

I've been feeling like I don't have the energy or focus to work on creative projects. The heaviness of the past few weeks makes it difficult to find the joy in creating and makes the effort seem like wasted time. Anyone else struggling like this?

I took a little time this morning to play with the set up and processing for the artichokes. There is so much more I could do but for this is what we have for today.

I am glad I decided to make this my 100-day project because there is so much more to learn. For example, the way the flowers shift in the water, the way the color of the flowers change with the color of the background paper I choose. I get everything laid out and once I add water everything moves and I have to fix it, it is a labor of love and frustration. My dried flower stash has come in handy this week. I am thinking that I might do fruits and vegetables next week, in the spirit of Irving Penn but with my own twist.

It's been quite some time since I took a self-portrait. For whatever reason, I decided to do it today without any prep. This was taken with the Lensbaby and triggered with my phone but without the luxury of a preview. During the COVID lockdowns, I stopped dyeing my hair and my reading glasses are always with me. Totally outside my comfort zone to post but alas this is who I am these days.

I created this panel several months ago from these incredible and unusual green and pink leaves. My son and his beautiful landscape donated many of my 100x frozen panel project subjects. Shooting in the golden hour is always a treat, but I got sidetracked, and my panel fell and chipped. I really am ok with the chip since there were no leaves in that section. Life isn't perfect so art should be a reflection of that truth. There are bright and dark spots and disappointments, and this image incorporates those ideas.

I was inspired to take this image by one that showed up on my Alexa show. I didn't have a cute teddy bear, so this little white dog had to substitute. I tweaked the processing and added texture for a bit of interest. HSS!

I feel like this is a total fail today.

This isn't quite what I had in mind when I was setting up the shot but I can't retake it. I tripped on my tripod and broke something inside my lens, it won't zoom in/out. Fortunately, the glass didn't break and it will still autofocus so I'm hoping that it can be repaired. I'm very anxious about it, this was not a cheap accident! I'm trying to find the positive from this situation. Artichokes will flower if you don't pick them in time, that's what I wanted to show off.

I am still trying to make the guitar stencil work out but this feels a bit too busy with all of the extra lights. I can also see too much of my room in the bubble. Not interested in reshooting today so we will try yet again another day. I will try to remember that less is more.

PS - I love music and miss attending live concerts.

Back at it again today, working on my 100-day project. I found these little weeds blooming in my yard. I did stop by a house with some gorgeous hyacinths blooming and asked if I could get one for my project, and I was turned down flat. The man who answered the door said he needed to get his wife's permission and return. When I returned, I discovered his wife didn't want to give any up since they only bloom once per year. He told me he was glad he asked her first. I told him he was a good husband. No hurt feelings, I don't have many flowers in my yard to work with, and I was hoping to highlight the season's beauty with flowers from my town.

Today's Macro Mondays theme is perfect together. Of course, a minion and bananas are a perfect pairing. HMM

"Don't treat your heart like an action figure wrapped in plastic and never used. And don't try to give me that nerd argument that your heart is a 'Batman' with a limited-edition silver bat-erang and therefore if it stays in its original packing it increases in value." -- Amy Poehler

I walked around looking for something interesting to photograph this morning. This box of washers was on my husbands tool chest and it caught my eye. I love how the macro lens can pick up the rough texture of the edges. It doesn't feel like it should be a photographic subject but sometimes random things can have interest.

There is something mesmerizing about the layers in the rununculus flowers. I am drawn in and captivated by the complexity and beauty. I purchased a few to plant in my yard and hope to get it done today. Fresh cut flowers are always a costly indulgence so I prefer to grow my own if possible. What are your favorite flowers?

I put off my picture again until the last minute and tried to shoot a water droplet illuminated by an off-camera flash with a purple gel. Working with speed lights has always been a frustrating experience for me as I have not mastered how to set them up or control them properly. This is the best of the bunch and it is not sharp or clear, but sometimes we have to fail to figure out the areas that need improvement. I might have to keep working on this type of image until I master it.

This morning found me working with artificial light and one of the flowers from the bouquet I got this week from my son's flower farm. I wish I would have started my project earlier so I could have been photographing all of the beautiful flowers that he grew. I will be ready for next season and look forward to all of the gorgeous blooms.

Focus on the good things in your life no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.

I spent the day making candy with my family and was too involved to capture anything. When I arrived home, a bit of sunlight spilled across the cabinets in the kitchen, which inspired me to grab a quick shot.

And that's all she wrote, folks. At least for this little endeavour. Always more to come!!!
