Three tether rope system. Classic tethered training flight. Into wind the forward speed is slow. The Instructor shadows the pitch control and can take-over if things start to go wrong! Side ropes can progressively allow gentle turns to be made.

Saturday was a complete let down at theis years Northampton balloon festival!!!

The only interesting thing was the REDROW team Inflating their Balloon whilst it was tethered to 3 4x4 vehicles, this lasted less than 5 minutes

There were no flights at all due to higher wind speeds

Helikite, tethered balloon landing in the village of Narsaq in south Greenland. We can see the reaserch station NIRS who is the field lab of the expedition. The tethered balloonmakes vertical distribution profile of particle under, in and above cloud layers. Theses measures will help to make more accurate predictions and model for the climate in artic.

The aim of the GreenFjord project is to explore the socio-cultural and environmental interactions by focusing our research on two different fjord systems: a marine and a terrestrial terminating glacier. Our efforts are organized around six clusters: cryosphere, land, ocean, atmosphere, biodiversity and human. This is a bird at our bird feeder when I was playing around with doing bird shots while the camera was tethered to my computer.

The light was just about perfect on Saturday... It was such a shame that it was too windy for take off. Seems the bank could go green by having their execs blow hot air into the balloon instead if that glorified bunsen burner.
