Decided to make a quick and dirty cardboard flash diffuser. Then I decided to just go all the way and make different comparisons.
- Homemade cardboard, head 45 degrees
- Nothing, head 90 d (towards white ceiling)
- Integrated lid pulled out but not folded back onto the head, head 45 d
- Nothing, head 45 d
- Nothing, head 0 d (straight ahead)
- Stofen diffuser, head 0 d
- Nothing, head 0 d
- Stofen, head 0 d
Clearly, ceiling bounce is the best.
The stofen does not bad a job, but adds a lot of warmth (which is neither good or bad I guess, depends what you're looking for)
My cheapo diffuser beats the rest.
It would be a whole different story outside though.
132/365 Sometimes a test shot may turn out to be a happy accident - I ended up liking my test shot better than any of the others for November 2, 2009 so I made it my pic of the day! Decided to play with it first, obviously... ;-) View On Black

I was planning on taking this on the bicycle, but the D80 is kind of heavy with the Manfrotto Superclamp.

This test piece for Haeger Potteries features an alien-esque crackled yellow-green glaze. It came out of the Haeger factory during their final liquidation after closing in the summer of 2016. The bottom includes a Haeger stamp and some codes in pencil.

Testing lilya's watercolor kit (thank you!) and some hot press paper I recently got. :-/... My disappointment is mainly with the paper. I just don't like how quickly the paint dries. It was like painting with markers. So I think I'll have to give it another go with cold press. Might end up using this as a postcard.
While painting this I also realized how 1) Without pre-planning I'm just terrible at subject matter and 2) This paint is reluctant to bind together after mixing. It's kind of strange but at the same time it's nice because it gives the color more dimension.
p.s. The scanner seems to have selectively chosen the yellow over the warm red hue in the background. In actuality, the background has a warmer red glow.

Quick test shot of Maryn using the g10 in a studio light situation. The resulting image is a slight crop and rendered out a very high quality 11x14 print. The G10 is a vaery capable camera when it has plenty of light. 1/60 sec, 16mm, ISO 80
Lighting Details: 540EZ with snoot+tiny add on snoot on camera right and very low to highlight the jewelry and show some texture on the slate. nikon sb-25 bounced up against a 18x36 white foam core board held above the set by the photographer. Wasn't getting enough control from the snoot at this scale, so I added some "barn doors" out of a cardboard box to the end of the 12" snoot so that there was just a little slit doing the highlighting.
Composition is a little static, but turning the necklace just about any other way really caught the light.

"Terrain View" of a portion of the Nevada Test Site. Yeah, gnarly! The Sedan Crater measures about 1,400 feet wide and 250 feet deep. "Looks good from my house!" Most of these are "subsidence craters." Sedan Crater is not, though. In that case, the explosive device was placed closer to the surface, in order to throw material up and away, as for excavation.
