The easiest method of muscle testing. Everyone can do this one. The only negative is that it sometimes takes longer.

Just thought I'd see how the new elf/werewolf hairpiece looked on a Valcan :)

Here is a sample image I took using a Canon A640. If you look at "original" size on this, Dan's hair is quite sharp. Compare this against the photo I took of Dan and Emily using the new 40D and you'll see just how soft the 17-55 IS USM image is.

I messed with the contrast very slightly, and bumped the saturation. But NO image sharpening was applied.

At this point, the A640 images are so much sharper than my 40D images that the 17-55 EF-S is headed back to the store to be replaced. Maybe they'll have a better sample of the 17-55? If not, I'll have to see if they have a 17-40 f/4 L or 16-35 f/2.8 L in stock.

At this point, Kirk is in the top of the right leg with a long steel pin that will be used to joggle the bolt joints of the leg and torso into alignment.

The crane slowly lowered the torso with an incredible precision. Katy and Chelsey steadied and turned the torso with a line on one side; Todd worked the line on the other side.

The joint came together and the line between the parts disappeared.

The process was so graceful that it was difficult to keep in mind, the weight they were dealing with: the torso alone weighs about a ton.

If the test had not been prepared with due diligence, Kirk could have died.

Testing lilya's watercolor kit (thank you!) and some hot press paper I recently got. :-/... My disappointment is mainly with the paper. I just don't like how quickly the paint dries. It was like painting with markers. So I think I'll have to give it another go with cold press. Might end up using this as a postcard.

While painting this I also realized how 1) Without pre-planning I'm just terrible at subject matter and 2) This paint is reluctant to bind together after mixing. It's kind of strange but at the same time it's nice because it gives the color more dimension.

p.s. The scanner seems to have selectively chosen the yellow over the warm red hue in the background. In actuality, the background has a warmer red glow.

I'm not posting this photo because I think it's "good," but rather because I've read some crap online about the Hasselblad not being able to take "good" photos (i.e., sharp) at shutter speeds slower than 1/125.

I'm here to show that this is BS. This photo was taken handheld at 1/8!! Sure, I "cheated" by using the mirror lock, but whether using the mirror lock function bettered the results in previous online garbage was not specified. And using the mirror lock was the first thing I thought of when I read that nonsense. Now, I've seen 1/8 handheld and crisp photos while using a Rolleiflex, but they don't have that mirror slap (and while I don't have a Rollei, I hear they, too, have a mirror lock function).

So that's the only point of this post. And, for the curious, there is NO PP of this shot. As is from the Hassy. No sharpening. But, again, what else is expected from a Hassy? :-)
