The road through the Habrouside/Strand reconstruction works was made two-way during the Easter school holidays, from Good Friday 29th March until Sunday 14th April. this eased the traffic flow considerably.
Drainage and kerbside work on the eastern side of Strand has also been partially completed, as has a loading bay - this was used as a temporary taxi rank during the two-way flow. Two sets of temporary traffic lights remained on site but were used to provide two temporary signalled pedestrian crossings at either end of Strand.
Dad and Uncle Matt picked up some beer on the walk home from dinner, but neither of those lazy bums felt like carrying it so they used my stroller as a shopping cart! My Grandpa Swineford would be so proud of me.
I put Alex head temporarily in a model muse body, until I can get a true type for him. I really have to put Alex in a 30 point articulation body, since he will soon be one of the main characters in Greenland. =X
After reading this article about increased mobile coverage for the inauguration these towers don't seem quite so out of place anymore.
This structure is being built on what used to be our astroturf sports pitch. It will house a temporary Reception, Security Base (the current homes of which are going to be converted into hair & beauty salons) and Flexible Learning Centre. It's gone up really quickly and looks quite impressive. You can see B Block at the back and the student canteen to the right. This is right next door to Isleworth and Heston Fire Station. I often used to see the firemen borrowing the pitch for a kickabout. Not going to be seeing that any more ;)
i started this painting last night. im not so great at mixing but its coming along better than i expected.
the red structure mounted outwith the concrete pier and the main steelwork are temporary bearings used to slide the bridge deck sections out into place. Once all sections are in place these bearings will be removed and the bridge deck lowered onto the fixed bearings which allow movement between the pier and bridge deck.
So on the long drive from North Bend to Fort Bragg, we listened to my iPod on random. And "I Want it That Way" by Backstreet Boys came along. And instead of skipping past it, we not only let it play but we also SANG ALONG. AT THE TOP OF OUR LUNGS. We were 10 hours into our drive. We were delirious. What can we say?
Temporary health and safety measures for new bridge before fitting handrails. The subframe for the ramp can be seen

“In his view, pure contemporarity would never be possible, because being absolutely with time would permit no future, no past, and this no present. It would amount to the identity of being and time - an impossibility” (Smith, pp.12)
“The bold reversal of contemporary usage was understandably slow in being accepted; occasionally, where the context left no room for doubt, Vasari himself relapses into the earlier habit of using the word moderno in the sense of “no longer classical” (vis., “mediaeval”) instead of in the sense of “no-longer mediaeval” (viz., ‘of the present”)” (Panofsky, pp.35)
“ . . . you must simultaneously affirm the existence of the object while denying the relevance of the tern that designates that existence. Or perhaps it might be better to admit that the notions, that cluster around the word ‘modern’ are as unavoidable as they are unacceptable” (Jameson, pp.13)
“Newer modernists operate on the principle of intensification and desire, they want to loosen modernism and give it some more of what it had” (Lavin)
When you celebrate your birthday, you feel happy, loved and complete. A utopia is a place or state where everything is perfect. Before blowing out candles, everyone feels a utopia, even if only for a minute.
