Lamasery (Lama Temple) in the heart of Beijing

The Mosque built on top of the Temple

This is an HDR version of a little picture of the temple district. The HDR system brings out some details in the background that I could not get to appear in any single image regardless of the fog settings. I find that I can't get any closer without the nearest forms breaking up and disappearing. In the original preview all the top tassels were bright read bundles of many lines leading straight up, but they do not render except that they are much like one of the ghostly images in the background.

Virupaksha Temple is the main center of pilgrimage at Hampi, and has been considered the most sacred sanctuary over the centuries.

The temple's history is uninterrupted from about the 7th century. The Virupaksha-Pampa sanctuary existed well before the Vijayanagara capital was located here. Inscriptions referring to Shiva date back to the 9th and 10th centuries.

The huge temple building was built by Lakkana Dandesha, a chieftain under the ruler Deva Raya II of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Khajuraho - An erotic temple of the western group (this is the more chaste one)

Between 950 and 1150, the Chandela monarchs built these temples when the Tantric tradition may have been accepted. In the days before the Mughal conquests.

The Temples are decorated with a profusion of sculptures that are among the greatest masterpieces of Indian art.

The Khajuraho Group of Monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is considered to be one of the "seven wonders" of India.

Little Hagia Sophia (Küçük Ayasofya Camii), former Greek Orthodox church during the Byzantine period, currently functions as a mosque. Hagia Sophia Museum, Chora Mosque (Church of St. Saviour and Chora), and Fethiye Mosque (Pammakaristos Church) were other important Byzantine churches in Istanbul that were converted into mosques which are now museum. The original name of Little Hagia Sophia was “The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus” which was dedicated to two young saints: St. Sergius and St. Bacchus.

The Church of Sts. Sergius and Bacchus was built in 536 CE by Justinian I, who also built Hagia Sophia, Underground Cistern, and many other important landmarks. Therefore, Justinian I is also called “Justinian the Builder.”

Wat Srisuphan (Silver Temple), Chiang Mai

The Shore Temple, situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal in Mahabalipuram near Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu,India. It was built in the 8th century A.D during the reign of King Narasimhavarman II of the Pallava dynasty. The Pallavas ruled from Kanchipuram and Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram as it is now called was their port city.

It is one of the oldest structural temples of South India built of blocks of granite. It is 60 feet tall and stands on a 50 feet square granite platform. The main deity of this temple is a Shiva lingam.

I took quite a number of shots of this gorgeous temple but I chose this one to share because you can just catch a glimpse of the deep blue waters of the Bay of Bengal to the right of this shot.
