The Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple.

It is built in the South Indian architecture| style.

Due to its architectural and historical significance, the temple has been gazetted as a National Monument. Historically, the temple was the registry of Hindu marriages. At that time, only the priest of the Sri Mariamman Temple was authorized to solemnize Hindu marriages in Singapore.

Construction of Middle Temple Hall began in 1562 and was completed in 1572. Its hammerbeam roof has been said to be the best in London. Queen Elizabeth I visited the hall in 1578, unannounced, to inspect the new building and listen to a debate between barristers. This is the earliest known visit of a reigning monarch to an Inn of Court. On the walls are panels bearing the coats of arms of Readers (senior members) dating back to 1597.

The first recorded performance of Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night occurred in the hall on 2 February 1602.Shakespeare himself was probably present.

The hall survived the Great Fire of London in 1666, but was damaged by bombing in the Second World War. (Wikipedia) Inns of Court, London, United Kingdom.

The Palitana temples of Jainism are located on Shatrunjaya by the city of Palitana in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, India. The city of the same name, known previously as Padliptapur, has been nicknamed "City of Temples". Along with Shikharji in the state of Jharkhand, the two sites are considered the holiest of all pilgrimage places by the Jain community. As the temple-city was built to be an abode for the divine, no one is allowed to stay overnight, including the priests. Every Jain believes that a visit to this group of temples is essential as a once in a life time chance to achieve nirvana or salvation.

This site on Shatrunjaya hill is considered sacred by Jains and have hundreds of temples. There are approximately 863 marble-carved temples on the hills. The main temple is reached by stepping up 3500 steps. It is said that 23 tirthankaras (a human being who helps in achieving liberation and enlightenment), except Neminatha (a liberated soul which has destroyed all of its karma), sanctified the hill by their visits. The main temple is dedicated to Rishabha, the first tirthankara; it is the holiest shrine for the Svetambara Murtipujaka sect.

I'm off early volunteering this morning and it's a grey dismal day. We're having a fire and hopefully baked potatoes if all goes well. Haunted eyes is by Joseph Arthur and this waterfall haunts my bleary eyes this morning.

Happy new year from Colombo, Sri Lanka. Long story short, I decided to establish my tripod just beneath a nest of crows and ended up being pooed upon for most of the evening. Problem is once you start taking a picture, you can't move for one hour! What i wouldn't do for a good picture!

This Gothic Temple folly at Stowe in Buckinghamshire is set in one of the world's most famous landscape gardens. It has a spiral staircase, roof terrace and is surrounded by vast parkland to explore. The gothic windows provide vistas of the monuments, lakes and temples in this 18th-century landscape.

This temple, built in 1741, was one of the last additions to the garden at Stowe, formed for Lord Cobham by Charles Bridgeman and his successor, William Kent. That same year, Capability Brown arrived as gardener, to begin his own transformation of the landscape.

My favourite tube station to shoot at night, I usually try from the other side on the busy Embankment road. But this time I was passing from the other direction after trying to get a good shot of Two Temple Place and noticed this composition.

The Temple station was opened in the parish of St. Clement Danes on 30 May 1870 by the District Railway (DR; now the District line) when the company extended its line from Westminster to St. Paul's station (now called Blackfriars). The construction of the new section of the DR was planned in conjunction with the building of the Victoria Embankment and was achieved by the cut and cover method of roofing over a shallow trench.

The DR connected to the Metropolitan Railway (MR; now the Metropolitan line) at South Kensington and, although the two companies were rivals, each company operated its trains over the other's tracks in a joint service known as the "Inner Circle".
