As NATO was officially disbanded in 2019, the first Eurofighter consortium was the next multinational fighter programme to go south, though there was still cooperation between the EF Typhoon operators for maintaining the fighters. As the situation in Europe had begun to stabilize in 2024, the “euro-canards” (EF Typhoon, Gripen and Rafale) were all nearing the end of their life cycle, and the need for a significant upgrade to the fighter fleet was imperative for the nations operating these aircraft. The significant costs involved in developing a modern fighter jet led to the Nordic aircraft parts and avionics consortium Noravia to team up with EADS and BAe Systems to start development of the next generation European fighter. Later on, Italian Alenia Aeronautica and the French-based Thales Group also became involved in the programme.
The new pan-European fighter programme between the Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK resulted in the aircraft that is to become the future backbone of several European air forces: The Eurofighter Tempest.
I'm running out of plausible explanations storyline-wise for the radical design changes on my Tempest, so just try to forget the previous two versions, and let's re-boot from the top, ok?
Despite its impressive performance, the EJ300 engine proved to have a significantly shorter life-span and higher maintenance requirements than initially assessed. The latest versions of the EF Tempests have - thanks to the Tempest's modular airframe - swapped the EJ300 for a pair of EJ290SP engines. The new engine configuration is more than on par with the previous EJ300, in addition to being more durable and reliable.

A racing frame turned mercenary war asset. Tempest is a sniper at heart, but isn't afraid to get up close and personal with those claws. Especially if his partner is close by.
Tempest still has it's original pilot Charles King. An Ex-Solar Union frame jockey who volunteered the frame for combat upgrades when thing got "interesting".
Made for Mobile Frame Zero.

With all the summery stuff lately, sometimes I like to put it into context and be reminded of how awesome summer is. Case in point, this is probably still a pretty nice hike this time of year. Mid Jan when I took this, it was blistering frothy mess of cold. Those couds-cold. The whipping wind-cold. The nice blue sky-cold. Aah, to summer!
Coincidentally, I'm in New Mexico now at a podunk NASA balloon facility. Balloon hanger-incomprehensibly and offensively cold.

Developed in secret, the Paragon Tempest is a helicopter built to raze a city. Armed with a fifteen foot explosive railgun, along with standard cannons and homing missiles. Steel girders crumble like paper. Infrastructure can be taken out in a tenth of the time previously required. Intermeshing rotors give incredible stability. Any attempts to ban this aircraft from combat have been...unsuccessful.

TEMPEST STRIKES SUBMERGED OBJECT.
Tempest, with six people onboard, hit a submerged object at the Kentish Flats wind farm off Whitstable just before 9.30 a.m. on 30th. March 2017 and started taking on water. The Coastguard launched Whitstable's lifeboat, which after
arriving at the scene, transferred two crew members and a salvage pump to assist Tempest's two crew. At this time Tempest was still impaled on the submerged object. At 10.55 a.m. the Sheerness lifeboat arrived at the scene and also placed their salvage pump and two crew members onboard. At just after 11.00 a.m. the four Vattenfall wind farm technicians aboard Tempest were transferred to a nearby CTV that had also been standing by. By 11.50 a.m. Tempest had floated clear of the underwater object. The crews were able to asses the damage and Tempest then made her own way to Whitstable's harbour escorted by both lifeboats and was eventually secured alongside the west quay. Both lifeboats were subsequently released from the incident to return to their respective stations. The weather during the incident was good visibility and slight seas in a force 3 wind.

Magnificent Tempest - It had been a hot, stormy day in Melbourne which had given way to a very windy and completely cloudy evening. I happened to look out of my window and see a small break appearing in the cloud so headed out with my gear as some of the best light is usually at the end of such days. The hunch about the light paid off by the time I reached the location and I wanted to try and capture a scene that showed the huge expanse of emptiness both in the sky and on the land here in Australia, but the wind was making it almost impossible to get the camera stable on the tripod. Luckily just after another strong gust of wind I managed to fire off a couple of shots, one of which provided an image that was exactly what I was seeking.
Like the Typhoon before it, initial production of the Eurofighter Tempest also took place in several manufacturing plants across Europe. However, with lessons learned from logistics issues from the first Eurofighter project, each of the five manufacturing plants are scheduled to acquire full production and assembly capabilities for their assigned customers shortly. The NDC’s Tempests are being assembled by Noravia’s manufacturing plant in Linköping, Sweden (Former HQ of SAAB AB).
The Tempest’s powerplant is the Eurojet EJ300 advanced turbofan, capable of 28,000 lb of dry thrust (45,000 lb with afterburner). This engine is a further development of the EJ200, though it also incorporates technology deriving from the Rolls-Royce F136 alternate engine for the F-35. The EJ300 engine can push the Tempest to a top speed of Mach 2,2 at altitude, or Mach 1,6 at sea-level. Speeds with supercruise range between Mach 1,1 and 1,5.
