I have worked and worked to get a decent shot of translucent shrimp. They are like the holy grail. Don't underexpose. Don't over expose. Find some contrast for their clear bodies. Dont' scare them off!
I found this shrimp under a outcropping in the area of the soft coral reef I was working. I was a bit too aggressive the first few tries and he scampered away. This was my third pass, and I had memorized the settings I needed to get a reasonable shot. This was the closest of the lot, and right after this single shot, he ran off for good.

Shimp gobies are fairly omnipresent in Okinawa. On the Nago seawall they are particularly prolific. Is it because of the extra sediment from the cement plant? Has Nago always been a Shrimp Goby Mecca? Unclear. This was a reasonably good shot taken with my D850, 105mm lens, and TC-17E II. I enhanced the colors a bit in lightroom, and while not exactly representative of what you'll see on your average dive, the image is quite pleasing.
This particular goby was cooperative and let me shoot many angles before it moved on. It's shrimp partner was uninterested in photography this day.

This is uncropped from 30m. I was playing with my teleconverter and OM Zoom lens at 800mm on a monopod when this wee fellow jumped in view for a moment... It was a very sift result so I added some underpainting and soft motion blur in corel..
Tip of the day.. teleconversion to 800mm needs low iso, a tripod, shutter release and patience...
Taken using a Sony A350 with a Hoya Minolta MC mount 200mm lens converted to Alpha mount with a Minolta 2X M/A converter-S. Minolta MD to Sony Alpha mount converters have to include an optical element in order to maintain infinity focus. This one is reputed to be one of the better Minolta to Alpha mount converters, and one of the better 2X teleconverters. I opted for that combination because it threw some of my old Minolta lenses into more useful focal lengths, given what Sony Alpha lenses I already have.
For this old lens focus and exposure are completely manual. I set the lens at f8 hoping that would be its sharpest. Not sure if the teleconverter affects diffraction limiting effects of lens aperture on sharpness.
Very slight haze in the atmosphere, and using my best tripod with its column up to bring the camera up to eye level, which may have been a mistake, because wind gusts were causing it to quiver. So this shot was taken in between wind gusts. The shutter was 1/8th sec, which may have brought this non-mirror-lock camera into the mirror vibration shake range.
I focussed the lens by using the LCD with the focus zoom on. For some reason that focus zoom is unavailable when shooting RAW, so I have to focus in jpeg mode and then switch to RAW.
This shot is mostly a test of detail resolution, but in general I'm very impressed with the image quality I get out of this old 200mm lens with the Minolta converter. Given the 2X teleconversion plus the 1.5 crop factor sensor in 35mm film camera terms this is effectively a 600mm lens. The moon is still only a small central part of the image, so this jpeg has been cropped down, but no downsizing. The pixels are still original A350 sized.
In close shots the resolution is quite startling, and in the centre of the image is clearly resolving detail well beyond the capacity of the A350's 14MP 1.5 crop sensor. So it may also prove to be a good macro set up for things which are prepared to pose patiently while I crank up the old technology.
Pushing cheap technology to its limits is such fun! :-)
