I took this a couple of hours ago before the sky clouded over. Taken in Port Credit, Ontario on November 15th, 2010 handheld with my Sony DSC-HX1 and my 1.7x tele-conversion lens.

The Japanese people talk about the rabbit on the moon. I have looked at the moon and seen the "rabbit" too — it looks like a rabbit is walking up the left side of the moon. You might want to look for the rabbit too."

Sexy in red...Water Lily flowers are wonderfully showy and fragrant, lasting only a few days. Some open during the day and close at night, others the opposite. Most are pollinated by beetles.

A prolific and reliably seen nudibranch, I am always greeted by them on my dives. They range in size from quite small to large. They have a tendenc to hold on with the caudal section (rear end) of their body and try to climb/find purchase with their rostral end (front part). This one was spotted on the way to the exit after 95 minutes at depth with 500psi, which any diver knows is when you see the best creatures!

We are 1 Malaysia...What started out as a traditional war canoe race between mighty tribal warriors of Sarawak back in the 1870s has today become a spectacular event. Held annually, it's slogan, "Race for Peace" saw races for traditional longboats, dragon boats, kayaks and jet-skis, plus plenty of fun and games for the family as well.

Mischievous look...Macaques also have a very intricate social structure and hierarchy. If a macaque that is lower level in the social chain has eaten berries and there are none left for a higher level macaque, then the one higher in status can, within this social organization, remove the berries from the other monkey's mouth...

Prehistoric portrait...The saltwater crocodile is an opportunistic apex predator capable of taking nearly any animal that enters its territory, either in the water or on dry land. They are known to attack humans who enter the crocodiles' territory. Juveniles are restricted to smaller animals such as insects, amphibians, crustaceans, small reptiles, and fish.

On this day, Shawn Miller and I went out looking for pygmy seahorse. On the way out i noticed this thready creature moving on a reef segment. It is clearly a tiny sea dragon. This photo coincided with the plankton spawn, so a recently hatched pipefish makes sense. Lovely young specimen in any case.

A sleeping adult Dusky Parrotfish (Scarus niger) sleeping. Sleeping parrotfish protect themselves from predators by creating a mucous bubble to sleep in. It keeps their delicious fishy odor out of the water so no predators come to eat them. They don't have eyelids, so they can't close their eyes. This fish was sleeping, and I was able to get a nice close shot without waking him up.

Yellow Bitterns or "Pucong Kuning" in Malay are the smallest of the bitterns. They take smaller prey, hunting small fish, frogs and invertebrates. Like other bitterns, Yellow Bitterns are solitary. They hunt quietly alone using their long powerful bills to grab their prey.

Saw this micronudibranch under a rocky overhang on the seawall. It was not longer than 2cm. Loved the benefit of the teleconverter with this specimen.
The second photo I am posting of this specimen. It was quite small and at an odd angle. With the 200mm equivalent lens, I had a hard time framing it and avoiding damaging the reef. This is cropped andthe colors were manipulated in Lightroom.

I was walking through the park the other day and there wasn't a soul around. I was walking along the path when all of a sudden I heard the call of an Eastern Screech-Owl. I stopped dead in my tracks and began to look for it. It took me ages to locate it in the tree..To my surprise I found 5, yes 5 owls in the branches. I began shooting with my handy little Sony DSC-HX1 with my tele-conversion lens....I tried to get a shot of them together but failed..I then decided to walk around and try to get another vantage point..but it was difficult as there was so many branches and so much shade. Unfortunately, I wasn't wearing my running shoes either lol I had my sandles on and it was hard to trudge through the thick trees. I was happy with this shot and it's not cropped and SOOC...I was thrilled to have heard the call and found them hiding in the tree branches. The three smaller ones were huddled together while the Mother and Father stared me down. I hope to return to the spot where I found them and get better photos of them in more sunlight..I'll keep my fingers crossed. This particular sighting makes the second time I have actually seen owls on my walk. It's a good day when you see one owl in the wild if you ask me, let alone 5.
"The Eastern Screech-Owl eats a variety of small animals. Two captive males ate from one-quarter to one-third of their own body weight in food each night, but sometimes skipped a night and stored food instead.
The trilling song on one pitch, sometimes known as the Bounce Song, is used by members of a pair or a family to keep in contact. The male will trill to advertise a nest site, court the female, and when arriving at a nest with food. The descending Whinny is used in territory defense. The songs usually are uttered separately, but sometimes are heard together.
Eastern Screech-Owl pairs usually are monogamous and remain together for life. Some males, however, will mate with two different females. The second female may evict the first female, lay her own eggs in the nest, and incubate both clutches.

Shawn Miller (#yeahiknowshawnmiller) and I were finishing a dive and taking photos of a Roboastra luteolineolata nudibranch. This dragonet moved in and really stole the show. These are great fish to observe: not shy, has moments where it isn't constnalty moving. At least somewhat curious.

The sky was laden with spreading jet trails, clouds and haze this evening of September the 28th 2012.
Last Sunday while watching the Olympics I saw something out of the corner of my eye..I looked out our back window and this is who I saw. I of course was unprepared and my teleconversion lens wasn't on my camera...the sun was shining through the window blah blah blah..You know how it goes..Anyway, I was at least happy to grab this quick shot of this Sharp-shinned Hawk in our backyard through our back window...When I finally had my camera ready the sound of me turning our backdoor handle was enough for him to take off...They've got ears like a HAWK lol ;)
Both males and females may engage in "slow flight" territorial displays in which the birds fly with stiff, slow, exaggerated wing beats while exposing white undertail coverts. Both sexes may give the "kik-kik-kik" call during these flights. Captures birds from low, stealthy approach-flight or after a short chase. Uses cover, including man-made structures, to conceal approach. Captures birds at bird feeders. (I didn't know they made a habit of going to bird feeders did you? ;)

Life in the jungles of Borneo...Male orangutans play almost no role in raising the young. Females are the primary caregivers for the young and are also instruments of socialization for them. A female often has more than one offspring with her, usually an adolescent and an infant, and the older of them can also help in socializing their younger sibling. Infant orangutans are completely dependent on their mothers for the first two years of their lives. The mother will carry the infant during traveling, as well as feed it and sleep with it in the same night nest.
