Week 10: J is for Jagged

Maybe not the nicest composition, but it's all about her golden teeth!

Things with Teeth in a mirror

Seen at the car show recently in Monte Rio, CA.

My youngest boy lost four teeth in the span of two hours yesterday. After lots of Halloween and Blair Witch jokes, I thought I'd shoot a fun spooky season photo. Here it is!

The water in parts of Northern Tanzania is heavily fluoridated, leading to fluorosis - a brown staining of the teeth. Luckily it's relatively easy to get it cleaned off the teeth - this boy was so happy to show off his new white front teeth!

Pat Paz gave an enrichment tour to American Museum of Natural History volunteers. The tour was about different teeth on display in the public halls. She gave the 16 of us on the tour a lot of toothy information to chew such as with these Tyrannosaurus teeth.

Like a ring of broken teeth the remains of an ancient oak protect it's progeny. Possibly grown from an acorn that fell into the still standing trunk of it's parent.

Using a reliable estimating tool from the Woodland Trust i would say this is about the same age as me. Which is to say not quite ancient or old enough for a bus pass but getting there 😁

TEETH FALLING OUT DREAM

Perhaps you are passing to a stage of greater maturity (and are reminded of when you lost your "baby teeth" as a child.) Maybe you are feeling old and decrepit or unattractive, thinking of the possibility of someday losing your teeth. Or perhaps you are subconsciously aware of serious dental problems that could lead to loss of your teeth. Are you overdue for a check up? Maybe you simply feel guilty about your poor dental hygiene. Have you said something(s) that you now regret? If so, maybe it feels as though you had a "loose tongue" and the words just "fell out" of your mouth. Maybe you grind your teeth at night (this phenomenon, called BRUXISM, is quite common) which leads to a strong dream awareness of dental discomfort, which triggers teeth-problems dreams. Perhaps you feel a lack of strength and assertiveness/aggression (there are "no teeth" to your personality). Or perhaps you recently saw, heard, or read something about loose teeth, which made a powerful enough impression to spark a dream.

Riddler tugged the broken piece of his cane out of Empress’ body, smiling at Pamela, “I did, didn’t I...”

Ivy tried to hide her anger, her absolute lividity, as she stared at Riddler.

He narrowed his eyes at her and laughed a small bit, “But it seems you lost.”

“What?” Pam raised an eyebrow at Riddler, trying to keep up the act.

“Oh, come the fuck on, Pamela. I’m the smartest man you’ll ever meet. You weren’t playing on Empress’ side, you weren’t playing on mine. You were trying to ‘save’ Gotham. What a bullshit goal.”

Ivy gritted her teeth and extended a vine whip, “How DARE YOU!”

“How dare I? How dare you betray me like this...after all I’ve done for you!”

“All you’ve done?! What you’ve done is made me kill for your precious goal of ruling Gotham or being some god of intelligence! You killed those men, Edward. All those years ago. Not me. But your sick mind made me think I did!”

Riddler grinned, “Well then I’ll be sure to pin Esmeralda’s death on you.”

Ivy growled in anger and lunged at Riddler, who quickly stabbed her in the leg with the cane, “That was a stupid plan...”

He picked Ivy up by the lapel of her jacket and pulled out power-dampening cuffs, slapping them onto her wrists as she faded from consciousness. Riddler laughed again.

“You’ll be in a rather different place when you wake up...”

i remember when you used to lie through your teeth; you used to lie and say you were fine and i didn't know how to help you because you wouldn't help yourself

About an hour ago I wrote a piece for the local newspapers' Facebook page. There has been recent debate over renovations to our high school and the debate between adults has turned downright hostile. So I wrote on the page about how students are taught not to be "cyberbullies" and yet the ones who chastise them are the ones setting the poor examples by exchanging harsh and negative comments between each other over the internet. Mainly I wanted everyone to be respectful and to know that they're setting a bad example for 17 year olds like me.

That was like an hour ago and the post has blown up with positive attention (i.e. comments, likes, shares) and I feel like people might listen and start being more respectful toward each other. I'm really excited.

As I am sick in bed and my great joy is looking through my fellow FlickR members photostream, I am thinking of sharing a few new photos.

I saw Danielle Nelson calls this a "post and run" :)

With opportunities being very limited for sunrises of late I went mad this weekend and dragged myself out of bed on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. I've had a few issues getting around to processing the images but finally made a start. This pic was taken before the dawn on Chemical Beach near Seaham. I've not had much luck here in the past but Thursday morning put that to rights. Best on black (Press L). Press F to fave and C to comment.

This photograph demands some explanation;

My parents bought an old building in the downtown of my hometown and remodeled it into an old-fashioned country general store. The upstairs of this building used to house different businesses, even an opera house, but was allowed to become run down. One of those businesses was a dentist’s office and many of the remnants of the office are still there. There is a very old tin bucket, probably 3 or so gallons full of rotten, pulled teeth. I took a few of these teeth and lined them up along the wall and snapped away.

Check out the teeth on these Cambodian girls. See my previous photo for more examples.

I've seen such perfect teeth in all third world countries I've visited. Lack of refined carbohydrates (bread and sugar in particular) and constant exposure to sunlight during pregnancy and into adulthood (very high levels of vitamin D in the bloodstream), reduce dental decay to almost non-existent levels plus create strong, dense, well-formed jawlines and teeth.

Sunscreen is unheard of, and dentists don't exist here. Flouridation does not exist. Until the recent arrival of NGOs and charities, toothbrushes and toothpaste did not exist either.

Toothbrushes have caused an epidemic of hepatitis among the villagers, because a toothbrush is inevitably shared among family members. This was pointed out to me by none other than Dr Beat Richner, the famous Swiss pediatrician who founded several pediatric hospitals in Cambodia.

Teeth go bad as soon as someone moves into a larger city, and adapts to Western food (sugars, soda, juices, bread and so on).

At this particular school, I found that the supporting charity had brought in toothbrushes and flouride toothpaste, and was feeding the children (as young as 6) cheap, nutrient-free MSG-laden pot noodles (I kid you not) and giving them full-sugar soy-soda. (and to add insult to injury, soy is a known estrogenic endocrine disrupter).
