The upwelling of a lava flow created these plates called "dragon's teeth" all along the north rim of the peninsula at Makaluapuna Point, Maui, Hawaii. Processed with Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz filters.

Dragon’s Teeth was formed as a result of one of the last lava flows from West Maui Volcano thousands of years ago. The lava flow met the intense ocean waves and strong sea winds causing it to jut upwards, cool, and harden, creating the jagged black rock appearance.

Just when you thought it was safe to get back into photography, jaws comes into view.

Chipmunks have incredible personalities. They are funny, smart, engaging, cute, silly, feisty, spastic and above all.....friendly.

This rocks formation called "Devil's teeth" on the Senja island near Tromso in Norway is a "must see" spot on the Senja trip. I spend just a few minutes here and promised to be back next time.

Although at first I was a bit disappointed I was not allowed to post a macro of a Oriental Salsify, I am pretty satisfied with "my" teeth (the seeds of a bell pepper). I wish you all a Happy Macro Monday!

Thanks for the views, comments and maybe even faves!

No, this is not what I put in a glass of water next to my bed at night...yet. It's not the deadly smile of a monstrous miniature shark, either. This is a detail of the famous "sound of the sea" sea snail, the cypraea pantherina aka panther cowrie. If I remember correctly, we brought this along from a trip to Croatia when I turned 4, although the cypraea pantherina is not endemic to the Adriatic but the Red Sea; shells also have been found in tombs in the Rhine Valley and in Pompeii. As to the mystery of the sound of the ocean that you seem to hear when you hold the shell to your ears... there are two theories. According to the first, rather straightforward theory, we hear the noise of our own blood rushing through our veins, amplified by the cavity of the empty shell. The second, more scientific theory (by Dr. David Sharp of the Open University in Milton Keynes, UK) states that the sound we hear is caused by our environment. The sea snail acts as a resonance body that amplifies some of the frequencies of the background / ambient noise by "throwing" the sounds around us back and forth inside the cavity of the shell. Our ear perceives the resulting vibrations as the sound of waves. Shhhhhh....

The original "In a Row" theme back in October 2016 was my second MM participation (please see first comment, if you like). This time I chose a more abstract approach. To make the "teeth" look softer, I experimented with some radiance / glow effects in LR, Luminar, and ON1, without taking away too much detail. I hope you like it.

A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone, and Keep Smiling :-)

I won't contact my dentist to scale.... ;-)
