This location opened on June 19th, 1996. It was renovated in fall 2012.
The store was built on site of part of the original shopping center from 1961. This end was anchored by what was originally a Colonial Stores, which was converted to a Safeway sometime in the 1970s and a Gene Walters' Marketplace in the late 1980s.

It's pretty incredible how some of the rocks are positioned in JTNP. The stone shown in this photo it teetering on the edge of another stone.....it looks like I would be able to give it a shove and send it rolling. I tried....not even close. It's the size of a small car, and I guessing that's about the force it would take to move it.
Per wiki.....formed more than 100 million years ago from the cooling of magma beneath the surface into monzogranite, with roughly rectangular joints. Groundwater then filtered through the joints to erode away the corners and edges to create rounded stones, and flash floods washed away covering ground to create piles of boulders.
Interesting geological history here.....plus they are fun to climb on :)

Pulling a giant teeter totter to the Man's burn platform to be burned. I'd have been helping if it weren't for the blisters on my feet...ouch!

So I haven't posted any pictures to the happiness project in a few days. I went home to Burin for a few days to see my Mom and while I was there, we got word that a dear friend of ours who we have known for over 35 years was tragically killed in a work related accident in Alberta. Needless to say, my heart wasn't into posting much happiness for a few days. Today, is the wake for Eddie aka Teeter and tomorrow the funeral. Looking at this collage I made, makes me happy to have known such a caring and fun loving guy. One more angel to watch over us this Christmas.

Mark and I, with moral support from Tom, built a very large and very sturdy teeter totter for alpha sigma phi and alpha sigma tau for their teeter totter a thon. not for children...unless they like being 6 feet in the air.
