This diagram from CMS sales lit. shows what was the cutting edge of underground petrol tank gauging thirty-five years ago. The console was designed to be seen but normally resided on the floor under the counter or in a store room in the kiosk. Each tank was then connected via in individual barrier box, each one the size of a tin loaf. The cable was about 20mm diameter, screened and with three co-axial cores and connected to junction box in the tank pit. The probe was 3" in diameter so required a special large entry in the tank lid.
CMS was a division of Smiths Industries and was put up for sale in the mid 70s. My boss looked at it and thought it over priced. A few months later we were asked to take the business off their hands, so it ended up with a dip-rod manufacturer in Market Harborough.
The system was not reliable at coming up with accurate readings, and the engineers blamed tank volumetric calibration. As a tank calibration specialist I was affronted an quickly proved the system was to blame and so began a new chapter for me in tank gauging development

Students drove a road track tractor guided by GPS to see first hand how the new technology worked. Special thanks to Brian Lam and Tad Adams (UDCANR 14) for their time in showing students and explaining their role with precision ag at Hoober. Inc. Endorsement of any business or product is not intended.

A visualization of Internet connections in the United States. The lines represent connections between routers in major urban areas throughout the country. From its humble beginnings in the academic research community, the Internet's infrastructure grew in a relatively short period of time. This growth will continue into the foreseeable future as the nature of the network evolves and more devices such as cellular phones, PDAs and even common appliances, are brought online.

Two things to know about HTC. One - parking is a complete pain. And two - don't be late or Paul Frison, the CEO, will wave a clock at you and call you out in front of hundreds of people. Not that that has ever happened to me...
