The ASCE Pacific Southwest Student Symposium is one of 21 regional events held each year, bringing together ASCE student chapters to put their skills into action.
Students showcase the outcome of countless hours spent planning, building, and testing, as ideas move from plans to real-world application.
Held each spring, the symposium brings together competition, professional growth, and networking, along with a strong sense of community.
The Pacific Southwest region includes 14 universities across Southern California and Hawaii. In 2026, California State University, Los Angeles is proud to host this year’s symposium.
I built one of these from a kit. You hooked it up to a TV, used a tape recorder for permanent storage. I hated the keyboard, so I hacked a full-size keyboard into it.
My mom walked past my door one day and saw me typing away on it. She asked me, "Where did you get that?"
"I built it," I replied.
"From what?" she asked.
"A kit I ordered from a catalog" I said.
"HOW? How do you learn to do these things?" She just shook her head and walked off before I could tell her I just followed the instructions.
