The Pomodoro Technique by no means was invented by BrainBox, but we can help you master it! The invention of the studying technique is credited to Francesco Cirillo who used a timer to create a structured study routine with balanced breaks. Click the link in our bio to learn more about how you can apply this technique into your daily studying routine.

To illustrate a way to make a "blurred background frame" using PicMonkey's overlay tool, as asked in the PicMonkey group. This is similar to Picnik's old Mirror Frame.
First, open the photo in PicMonkey. Use the Soften tool - set Softness to 100% and Fade to 0% and Apply. If you want it softer, repeat the effect.
Next, on the Overlays tab, choose "your own" and add the same photo. Drag/resize to center over the blurred background.
Save.

I recently purchased four of the Echo Base kit at 40% off (minifigs, weapons, tauntauns, and a few other parts are in my Bricklink store - tell me I sent you and I'll give you 5% off). Once I started looking at the parts I'm keeping out of these, I realized I had a decent start for some mecha (even though I've never tried building in that genre before). Here are the resulting ideas. Most of these aren't great, but maybe some of the techniques are useful to someone else.
Also, more macro-mode photography practice. Just how many lights am I supposed to need to make these look good? These were taken with two focused lights overhead and another behind me.

Silent Questions | MindSways - April 2013
SEEING THROUGH ILLUSIONS

Hi,
The principle that powers Mind Magic and what we focus on in the Sleight of Mind Set workshops, is how we influence the silent questions in the minds of others. The tricks, illusions and pieces of performance we teach you on the SMS give you the tools and techniques to answer the silent questions. For more on this and information on the workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
Every time someone sees us, silent questions are stimulated in their minds. Every time we see or meet someone else silent questions are fired off in our minds. Though the questions are many, I would say that there are three dominant questions which arise when we are getting our message across;
What is your story?
Why should I care?
Do I need to pay attention?
All magic takes place in the theatre of our mind, as do the silent questions. It is in our minds that we pull together our experiences and answer the silent questions. I understand that all of life's experiences do not take place in the mind, but it is our mind that filters, interprets and creates meaning for us.
In communications theory the saying "it's not us, its them" has great importance.
Likewise in Psychological Artistry and in our Sleight of Mind Set workshops these take on a very important role. This is why understanding the silent questions are so important. The answer to these silent questions determines whether we grab and hold people's attentions or not. For more on the workshops, please see mindsways.com/SMS/
THEATRE OF THE MIND - Tricks on 3 Levels
On the workshop we uncover tricks, look at making a trick into an effect and making the effect into a piece that works for you. The three levels we work on are:
Effect of a trick - triggers "how did you do that?"
Analysis of a trick - triggers "why does this trick work? Why does the effect happen?"
Practicality of a trick - explores how you can use the tricks
This involves using a combination of Psychology, Neuroscience, Smart Thinking and the ideas, tools and techniques from Mind Magic. The principles and lessons are useful in understanding our belief systems, how we think and act. It is in our minds that we experience emotions, thoughts and actions. These are in turn determined by the silent questions we ask ourselves.
We use Mind Magic effects as a reflection of how the mind works. We use the 3 levels above as a lens to increase our understanding how our minds control our actions, emotions and thoughts. It is through this that our minds tell us stories that justify our actions.

SILENT LANGUAGE OF BELIEFS
Throughout the workshop we work with the theme of "All is not as it appears". Please take a look here at these example, the McGurk effect and Prof. Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect", a well-known Fred Astaire clip and Rory Sutherland's Perspective Is Everything talk. You can see them by going to mindsways.com/SMS/#PsychologicalArtistry. These show very clearly the importance of understanding the fact that
"We cannot believe what we see, but we see what we believe."
This is vital in all communications but also is a cornerstone in Mind Magic. The videos illustrate both the power and the approach of Psychological Artistry. I would love to know what you think.
THE FEEDBACK - What People Say
The feedback from the workshops have been extremely positive, with people (from last weeks workshops) saying things like:
"It really was most enjoyable and enlightening"
"Fantastic day... a great eye opener!"
"Another great course, with plenty to think about and over"
The workshops have been enjoyed and shown to be beneficial to many people over the past year. The events have been attended and proved to be relevant to people from a wide range of backgrounds including entrepreneurs, business consultants, health professionals, coaches of life, performance and sports, therapists, hypnotherapists, trainers etc.
This is an unorthodox approach to understanding human behaviour, illustrating and promoting our messages, and this is where the real power lies. As Marty Neumeier says in ZAG " Be Different - NO Really Different". For more on what people say, please see mindsways.com/WPS/
WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?
There are many definitions of psychology, some people will say it's about interpreting thoughts, influencing people's behaviour or getting a better understanding of motivation. It is all of these and more, but the one that sums it up for me is "the science of how we think".
Next is the artistry part, again, there have been many definitions but I like to think that artistry is a blend of:
Creating connection, rapport and emotions
Telling stories
Gaining and holding attention
Producing insights
Displaying human nature
Cognition
Show, Not Tell
Multiple Moments of Interest, Interaction and Insights (MMI's)
Therefore, Psychological Artistry is the blending of these two to create a method for successful communication. Psychological Artistry is where science and art meet Mind Magic.
The real power of Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry lies not with just the tricks, but the effect that the delivery of the tricks have on people, tapping into the emotions of mystery combined with the personal touch and firing off the silent questions. On the workshops and in the SNT kit, we give you the tricks, however, learning to use them with what you do is where the real power lies.
By delivering these tricks, you can evoke the making of the extraordinary. By combining the tricks with the energy of your words, your message and your personality, you make yourself stand out, stimulate fascination and create interest in you. This is when the real magic happens, in the theatre of the minds.

Photos from the Feb 4-5, 2012 workshop with Aimee Lee. Paper felting, cording and weaving over two days!
This a muti-exposure created using a combination of efffects in Picasa. If you want to learn more, I have described the process in detail here.
A new technique I figured out! Firstly, jam the square stud into the tyre, then place that into the globe. There should be just enough friction to keep the whole assembly in place.
A technique I have used for a while but am still trying to perfect. It usually works best with wider lenses and a shutter speed of about 1/13th or so and you hold the camera in the same position as best as you can while you spin the camera and the edges will swirl and after many attempt's you can get a few or one with a sharp center if you would look at this at 200% as I did you can see that around the top lip area is in perfect sharp focus with no blur. Not my best attempt but it's going to take a lot of trail and error.
For 7DOS - Colour Purple - Technique Thursday
1) Picnik,, HSL: the colour changing tool.
In Picnik you change all colours simultaneously. Because the rest of the picture happens to be black and white this was no problem here.
2) In Lightroom HSL lets you change a colour to different shades, add luminance and or saturation, a wonderful tool to spice things up, or tone them down, so I spiced them up, adding a bit more of everything as well as some clarity.
I also did some spot removal because she is a sloppy eater ;)
For this image I edited it almost the same exact way that I edited the other photo. I used Photoshop first and then Lightroom and I used the same exact skin smoothing techniques with the spot healing brush to remove impurities and tonality adjustments to smooth the skin. I edited the image in Lightroom slightly different than the first photo. I did up the exposure +3, but I adjusted the shadows/blacks -2, and I upped the tint +3. For this type of studio lighting setup the face is supposed to look like it has a spotlight on it so I wanted to darken the shadow a bit to insinuate the hard shadows.
