This year the Providence and Worcester Railroad continued to provide their passenger train and crew for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council's extremely popular Polar Express trains with trains running and 3:30 and 6:30 PM Fri-Sun for a total of 42 sold out trips in 2024.
The train consist is deadheading south from Worcester to begin the final weekend of performances with B39-8E 3910 (GE blt. Dec. 1987 as LMX 8534) amidst a winter wonderland scene of the first significant snow of the year. They crossing in Blackstone River near MP 17.9 on the historic original Providence and Worcester mainline just north of the Rhode Island state line. This is the 10th of 14 crossings of the Blackstone along the 43 mile line when traveling south from Worcester to Providence.
As I've told you before in previous posts the P&W is my hometown road and it is inextricably linked to the river it follows both historically and physically. The Blackstone River courses 48 miles from its headwaters near Worcester (at the confluence of the Middle River and Mill Brook) to where it flows into the Seekonk River at the headwaters of Narragansett Bay. The river drains a watershed of 640 square miles and more importantly drops 450 feet in the 48 miles. It is that drop, that made this river a pivotal point in American History.
From ririvers.org: A series of steep drops along the length of the Blackstone River provided ideal conditions for the development of water powered industry. Samuel Slater arrived in America in 1790, with managerial experience and technical knowledge of textile manufacturing in England. With the assistance of local merchants and artisans, he helped establish the first successful water-powered textile mill in America. Slater Mill was established on the Blackstone River, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This achievement is credited with spawning the birth of America's industrial revolution. Development of the Slater textile mill catalyzed the development of water-driven technology throughout the length of the Blackstone River. By 1914 water-powered mills occupied all of the readily available dam sites in the Valley.
As the birthplace of industrial America, the need for transportation quickly arose in the valley, and between 1825 and 1828 the Blackstone Canal was constructed. The canal lasted only 20 years having been rendered obsolete by the opening of the Providence and Worcester Railroad in 1847. The railroad has proven to be a more durable method of transportation and 175 years after its opening here it is still serving the purpose for which it was built.

My fifth build for my Iron Builder round against LittleJohn! The seed part is the Technic Cable Connector in green
The MATL (Martian Atmospheric Tracked Laboratory) Rover is a single seat science platform that is designed for short-range research operations and base maintenance.
Febrovery 2023 build. Technic fig scaled with some odd and useless pieces integrated into the design.
This cute and impressive wagtail gave me a good show and got used to me pretty quick. It is obviously a tough subject to photograph due to their size and speed. Out of the few thousands shots I took, a couple stood out of the acceptably Sharp that I managed to capture. This where it caught this flying insect display it’s impressive technic. I also liked that I captured the reflection. This has been captured along the Silh in Zurich.
Early morning on the Nanpiao Coal Railway and the first passenger service of the day is leaving the wayside platform at Shaguotun on its way to Sanjiazi. My little bridge camera was not up to moving subjects in what little light there was so it was 1/4 second at ISO 400 with predictable results. Despite the blur and noise, to me it still recaptures the unrepeatable atmosphere of that icy cold morning.
I've checked the manual, read the FAQs and raised a support query but, frankly, I don't think this is a known issue.
Back in October, the CN Geometry train paid the Iowa Division a call. Here she is coming thru Cedar Falls, Iowa on a nice day

Position: Railway station Kladno, Czech Republic. This technical detail belongs to the steam locomotive "Parrot" made in Czechoslovakia. Locomotive series 477,0 is the last type of stream locomotive manufactured in the ČKD Praha for the Czechoslovak state railways.
Following the collapse, Scimitar's use of Armored Technicals proved to be an effective, mobile asset connecting their territory. The one pictured above features a DSHK, a door mounted 249, communications antenna, armored cab and engine, run flat tires, and a LED light rack.
So an upload! It's been a while, especially making something with wheels. Side note, do you all think that vehicles with wheels can exist alongside hover vehicles? I've been building, just haven't uploaded anything recently. That being said there's big stuff in the works.
The truck is highly inspired off of Christian's Technical based on Andrew's design.
While the community is certainly not what it once was here on Flickr, let me know what you think of this and if you're still out there. Check out my Instagram here: www.instagram.com/sci.fi.dude/
"Box Hill Technical School for Girls and Women welcomed its first 65 junior pupils on 31 March 1924. Another 161 seniors enrolled in April that year and on 4 September 1924 the Minister for Education, Mr John Lemmon, MLA, officially opened the school.
The subjects available reflected the education and training priorities of the early 20th century. Core subjects included Housewifery, Cooking, Dressmaking, and Millinery. Through these courses girls gained skills to equip them for the role of wife and mother. However some students chose vocational courses aimed at securing paid work, including bookkeeping, secretarial work and professional dressmaking.
On 2 February 1943, the Box Hill Boys’ welcomed 470 junior students seeking technical education. Subjects included Carpentry, Sheetmetal, Machine Shop Practice and Technical Drawing.
In the mid-1960s both technical schools expanded their subject range to include post-secondary options with offerings such as certificate courses in Business, Engineering, Electronics and Clothing Studies.
By the early 1970s the technical schools had been re-badged as technical colleges and their Technical and Further Education (TAFE) course enrolments grew rapidly. The original Girls’ Technical School was renamed Whitehorse Technical College in 1971 when its new building in Whitehorse Road was opened. Box Hill Technical College was one of the first of seven technical colleges to separate its TAFE programs from the secondary technical offerings. Box Hill College was officially re-named as a College of TAFE in October 1981 with Whitehorse Technical College declared as a TAFE in December 1981.
On 25 January 1984 the Whitehorse College of TAFE and Box Hill College of TAFE amalgamated to provide the most diverse range of programs in the TAFE system."

This is a heavy MOD of Nico71's version. I bought his instruction and started modding it so it resembles the real car better. Still not perfect :)
The roof line is just 1 stud wide and runs more smoothly.
HOG steering.
seats are different and the front seat have been moved 1 stud backwards and the back seat 2 studs backwards.
And a lot of detail modifications, like the bumpers, door color line.
Just like the original is has steering, ultra soft suspension and opening doors, hood and trunk.
Technically this was taken yesterday but I've processed it today and I like it.
Mr Golightly and I went to Haworth for the weekend - an early Christmas present to ourselves and the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping. (All presents are now purchased apart from 4 small items.) It was pantomime weekend in Haworth and Father Christmas was wandering up and down the Main Street with lots of other famous faces.
Explore #241 - thank you!
I've shot the HH11 local dozens of times. It's an easy target and it's always a single GP38-2.
I've also shot from this location at CP Harrisburg from atop the State Street Bridge dozens of times. It's a spot I like and it's also easy access from my office in Harrisburg.
I heard the HH11 wanting to come out of the yard with GP38-2 #5179 and knowing 5178 was a high hood I had hoped the same for the #5179.
Well no such luck as I could spot that admiral cab from a mile away.
As he fired up the bright lights I ratcheted the shutter down to 1/6 and decided to grab the big and wide pan.
Why? Well if I don't make it, nothing lost. But if I do...well I've just won gold in the foamer olympics. LOL.
Thought it was time I gave my "freedom fighters" a vehicle ; )
I'm still going to keep messing with this to make it much more beat up and well used but I want to avoid it looking incomplete instead. All in all a fun build and without the MG and flag etc etc it also serves well as just a regular jeep for different kinds of scenes.

(Wikipedia)
