Automated Manufacturing Systems Technician (AMST) Open House - April 15, 2015 - Gateway Technical College - Elkhorn Campus

This past summer I worked as a field technician for the US Forest service working on the cascade forg (pictured here) and the sierra yellow-legged frog.

Pictured here is a technique used for identifying animals, a VIE. A biologist, Kim Cook, skilfully marks this individual by injecting a subcutaneous plastic into this YOPY (young of previous year) frog. The color and position on the arm of the will allow future biologists to identify the year the frog was first found. Later in life if the frog is recaptured it will receive a PIT tag, a small micro chip (the same that is used with pets) so it can be identified as an individual.
