AIS screen grabs. This gives an idea of the shipping intensity in the English Channel. The ships are moving at anything up to 20kts, while our yacht (the circle near the centre) was making 6kts. It is like strolling across an autostrada!

Here is my alternative design to a fantastic Lego Technic 8865 Test car. I am so proud that as a first person I can present you with instructions for my alternative build to Lego Technic 8865, which is a Rally Dakar car. I am not a professional builder, I don't even have a technical knowledge much, therefore I am really happy with what came out of this. The car was designed in real life by trying and rebuilding until I was happy with everything. Certain little areas were rebuilt while putting instructions together. The whole process of building, and making instructions took me around three months. This model wasn't meant to be an alternative to a main test car which has many attractive functions. It was meant to be an alternative to a B model, which is a jeep that has only two functions and is not as attractive in design. My presented model has three main functions, suspension, steering, and two piston engine. You may ask, why only two piston engine? You may well remember that the Lego Technic 8847 (Dragster) from 1983 also has two piston engine, so it is more about functionality, and not about the number of pistons. Also, it's important to understand that the car has a certain colour scheme that I was trying to keep. Therefore if you only have a certain amount of parts in a certain color and you don't want to build exactly the same model that is originally within the set, you have to compromise on many things. I personally think the model came out really well. Also, I have put the pistons next to each other without a separation wall just to save space and parts that have been used for a dashboard. It actually works really well. People may also be asking why I haven't used a differential between the wheels. One of the main ideas of my build was to make a car that is narrow in comparison to a very wide Test car, which means I did follow that plan, therefore, there was no space left for a differential. There are definitely techniques that will not satisfy strongly technical types, but I was really trying hard to bring some functions to life while keeping a certain attractive cockpit design and the strict colour scheme, which was very complicated to maintain, but I hopefully succeeded. Your purchase, comments, photos of a finished model, opinions, and support will be very very highly appreciated. Thank you guys. Enjoy the build! Tom

This was the Technical Team Judging.

The judge asks Cassie a question, and of course, Drake -- not to be outdone, has to add his $.02 as well! :-)
