Hey team how are we all doing?
It be throwback Thursday today and I've finally finished processing a photo taken 2 weeks ago from my trip to Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
Renown for its unique architecture this crazy critter being the Sydney Opera House continues to fascinate and inspire architects all around the world, or so I'm led to believe. This photo was shot from the Milson's Point side with a 70-300mm telephoto lens on a dodgy tripod.
The processing was done like this; firstly the photo was taken into Lightroom where the massively blinding highlights and whites were dulled down. The shadows were raised up a tad too as some parts of the photo were too dark. Then I played around with the colours using the HSL panel until I got the feel that I liked. I aimed to contrast the bluish sky with the orangey/yellow lights inside the building. I cropped the image and fixed up the horizon to make it straight. I then brought the photo into Photoshop and did some noise reduction using Imagenomic's Noiseware Professional software. Finally I cleaned off the image by using a combination of the clone stamp tool, spot healing brush and the brush tool. The most challenging part of this process was to get the image right in camera with the nasty gale forced winds of that night.

Death Valley, California
A section of soft and colorful eroded sedimentary rock in the Twenty Mule Team Canyon, an area near the Zabriskie badlands. Its origin was the bottom sediments of a Miocene epoch lake in a volcanically active region. The volcanic ash is the source of the various colors we see today.

The view from the Clifton Observatory was fantastic, the clouds parted and blue skies ment there was standing room only.

Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the Royal Air Force aerobatics team (The Red Arrows) died when his Hawk T1 "Red 4" crashed near Bournemouth Airport after a display yesterday, Saturday 20th August 2011.

Our paths may be different, but our God is the same.
After visiting the Shipshewana region of Northern Indiana over the past few days, my respect for the Amish/Mennonite communities continues to grow. With the flea markets, craft stores, restaurants and other touristy destinations brimming with those who they were designed for, just a block or two away in every direction were others hard at work.
With my traditional cup of coffee and camera in hand, I headed out from our hotel on our last day there at 6:30 in the morning. Now driving the rural roads of LaGrange County, very few people were in sight. Almost immediately I noticed an Amish lady hanging cloths on a clothesline…at 6:30am…meaning she had already hand washed them this same morning. I laughed at the conversations the Mrs. and I have had over the years just to get my clothes off the floor and into the hamper and who was going to fold what. The barns were busy with milking, stall maintenance and feeding…the morning chores that needed to be completed before the afternoon chores could begin.
The Amish have a deep seeded believe that photos in which they can be recognized violate their Biblical principals. Even though I had the equipment to capture a forehead blemish that a dermatologist could accurately evaluate, I respect that belief. As stated hundreds of times, I do not enjoy taking photos of people. With the Amish it is different. My personal amazement and curiosity aside, this desire to capture is based in respect for their choosing a more difficult path, to do without what I can not.
Although shot thru a fence, this shot is a personal favorite as I had never seen a six horse team plow a field before. The power of the horses was evident in the ease in which they seemed to just be out for an evening stroll. While editing, keeping this shot in color just felt wrong…actually, they all did.
Sometimes color distracts from the subject, just like things often distract us from what is, or should be most important.
Tonight, in a departure from recent experimental layer/montage work, I revisit some shots from an excursion to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, with a couple of shots of downtown buildings from Busch Stadium and a couple of "Team Fredbird," sort of the Cardinals cheerleading squad.
Featuring a slightly updated version of Green Arrow. Instead of having no sleeves or full on sleeves I decided to compromise and gave him half of each. And it's my favorite look so far!!!

A change of manhole covers were needed. The old ones were worn out.
With a 1,3 meter drill they drill around the old cover.
Then they grab the old cover still mounted in asphalt. A new cover is placed in the manhole and finally the asphalt team roll in and finish the job with new asphalt around the new cover.
