Macro Mondays

Square mugs I have mentioned before but only photographed a little part of one (see comment box below). A friend gave them to me many years ago and I consider them art more than mugs for obvious reasons because when you try to drink out of them you spill liquid everywhere :) Every face has a different design and different colours, I like them very much.

An Earl Grey tea bag pulled from my cup serves as my "Single Use" item for Macro Mondays theme this week. HMM!

Sorry MM lovers! Not a brand new picture, but I think it fits this week's theme perfectly. I have been busy with other stuff. I will keep up with your pictures soon! Wishing you a HMM!

I wrote this on January 5th, 2016:

I was just making some tea for myself yesterday and looked on the tag of my tea bag. It said: "wat was de mooiste dag van je leven?" or: in English: "what was the most beautiful day in your life?" So that is my question for you.

Both birthdays of my children were great of course (in the end, not the beginning with the pain and so on), but if I could just mention one day, it has to be the day I married my husband.

The round tea bags from The Republic of Tea are convenient and easy to use. This tea was discontinued, but I still use the tin to carry my tea bags as the name of the tea and the artwork on the tin is so beautiful. The size of the tea bag - 1.75" - tin 2" across. HMM ! !

Yogi Tea - Tea Bag Wisdom

When all else fails, I fall back to playing with favorite subjects. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to capture the light and steam in just a way that will let me know that I've got the perfect shot and no longer need to shoot tea. There is something that keeps me coming back, it must be that no two shots are ever the same, the wind, the temperature, the light, dof, so many variables change the image. Still working on improving my use of textures in images.

Totally out of sorts today, I've been in denial that I'm getting sick but today it's hard to ignore. I was sipping tea when I looked outside and saw it was sunny and snowing. I made a fresh cup and took it outside to capture the magic of the snow, steam and sunlight. You can't get the full effect of the snow here but I really loved the steam in this shot so this was my winner.

Using light that was streaming in through the windows this morning. I love the starburst on the handle, the swirls of the steam, the way the cup picked up the pattern of the tablecloth and how it is reflecting the shadow too. Lots of interesting things going on here. It has lots of technical problems but there's so much more going on here that I had to use it regardless of the flaws.

The Aveda tea is by far my favorite, it has a hint of anise or fennel that gives that licorice taste compound with a few drops of honey and it is a wonderful winter's night cup. The black on black was a fun one to shoot but I liked how the tea bag popped which is what this is all about the bag of tea.
