Members of the 1st Cavalry Division and 2nd Cavalry Brigade currently training at Tapa Military Base in Estonia shared Thanksigivng with their Estonian counterparts and friends this year.

Traditionally, U.S. troops stationed abroad are served Thanksgiving dinner by the commander and officers. This year, U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Levine and Defense Attaché LTC Geoffrey Wright helped serve troops there.

Tapas, or "small plates", is common in Spain. You can make a meal of drinking and sampling all of the local delicacies, including the regions wonderful handcrafted liquors. Here, we take a break to sample some ham shaved off of one of the legs above the bar. This was the best glass of wine on the whole trip.

Duck salad with angel hair pasta, raisins, pine nuts, and spinach. These were tapas from Arco de Cuchilleros in Lakeview.

The typical Spanish meal: Ham, chorizo, blood sausage, olives and cheese.

Andy and I got tapas at The Icon on State Street in Madison today. We had crostini piled with artichokes and fennel marinated in a wonderful vinagrette, followed by two hot plates--lightly breaded and fried calamari and aioli, and a large empanada filled with stewed beef and served in sauce made with sun dried tomatoes.
