Tapa cloth (or simply tapa) is a barkcloth made in the islands of the Pacific Ocean, primarily in Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, but as far afield as Niue, Cook Islands, Futuna, Solomon Islands, Java, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea (particularly in Oro Province around Tufi) and Hawaii (where it is called kapa). In French Polynesia it has nearly disappeared, except for some villages in the Marquesas. (Wikipedia

in many Spanish tapa bars (beer bars) we find ham hanging on the ceiling to dry of. The little red/white hoods underneath collect the oil which is running out. In spain people like to go out for a beer or wine and eat a little snack, called tapa. In former times tapa was the lid that was put on top of a glass to prevent flies or dirt to fall in. So later it became custom to put a little snack on top of it.
Spanish people like to have a little bite to go with their drink. A tapa actually is a lid on a glass where they put a little bite. A pincho is the little stick to hold it all together. This is what they nowaday understand under a little something. costs about 1,50 Euro each a small beer about the same

English
Tapas (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈtapas]) are a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or hot (such as chopitos, which are battered, fried baby squid). In select bars in Spain, tapas have evolved into an entire, and sometimes sophisticated, cuisine. In Spain, patrons of tapas can order many different tapas and combine them to make a full meal. In some Central American countries, such snacks are known as bocas. In Mexico, similar dishes are called "botanas."
The serving of tapas is designed to encourage conversation because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal that is set before them.[citation needed] Also, in some countries it is customary for diners to stand and move about while eating tapas.

Muchas gracias!

Tapas in Bordeaux - when I saw the menu I decided to eat at this restaurant on the square as I am familiar with the food & did not have to contend with a French menu. I ate at three different tapas restaurants in three different cities in France. Each time the deep fried food got worse than the last as it was overcooked. Dining in France was mostly a great disappointment. San Francisco has two very good tapas restaurants, expensive, but worth the quality!
