Andy and I got tapas at The Icon on State Street in Madison today. We had crostini piled with artichokes and fennel marinated in a wonderful vinagrette, followed by two hot plates--lightly breaded and fried calamari and aioli, and a large empanada filled with stewed beef and served in sauce made with sun dried tomatoes.

Now then, this is where I'd usually start showing off my wealth of knowledge on the subject of Samoan/Polynesian tapa. But alas, I know next to nothing about tapa except that a) it's an indigenous Samoa/Polynesian art form, and b) the shapes sure come out looking interesting.
By the way, I took some liberties when adjusting the colors in this shot, so it's not a 100% accurate rendering of what this particular piece truly looks like. Shape wise, yes, but color wise, no. Personally speaking, I kind of enjoy the odd color combination. If I've unintentionally gone and mangled the color scheme of someone's precious creation, mea culpa, but it's because the colors in the original shot came out way, way too light. So what you see here is an accident, but I hope you think it's an enjoyable accident.

Finally, I'm back...after a very long hiatus.
I had a hard drive failure a few months back and thought I lost all of my photographs. Foolishly I had no backups, and as a computer programmer by trade I REALLY should have known better. So demoralizing. Thankfully with some ingenuity and some help from my Dad (Happy Father's Day, btw!) I was able to recover them all.
I've since rebuilt my Mac, purchased a Drobo (http://www.drobo.com) for backups, and have begun processing my backlog of pics.
I'm out of the office sick today, so apart from the sniffles and upset stomach, I have some time today to get some pics up. First up are a bunch of pics from San francisco. I was there in March on a business trip for the Game Developer's Conference. Had a great time and managed to get my camera out on a couple of occasions.
It's good to be back and I hope to hear from all my Flickr friends again. I've got plenty of pics to post! :P

South Beach, Miami Beach, Saturday evening, Tapas Y Tintos. Yea, there's like three types of calamari there, with some mussles and some shrimp.
