We discovered the "Little India" Restaurant on the Gold Coast Highway at Labrador in November 2009. Whilst we have previously enjoyed Indian food... however, this place is an absolute gem... We had never realized how fabulous Indian Cuisine could be until we came to this restaurant...

 

The food here is absolutely superb, the service is great and they will even cater to individual tastes and preferences, the restaurant is small and elegant, the portions are more generous than in other Indian restaurants and dining here is exceptionally good value.

 

Every time that we have dined at the Little India Restaurant, we have had a very pleasant experience and very fond memories... so much so, that we have made this our favourite restaurant.

Chicken breasts marinated overnight in yogurt, a tandoori spice mix, fresh garlic and ginger. Moist and tender guaranteed! Little yogurt mint sauce on the site and a roti.

"Tandoori chicken, Sheek Kabab, Chicken Tikka, Tandoori Prawn, Lamb, Mattar Paneer, Rice, Nan, Raita, and Kheer."

 

Tandoori Chicken - Chicken marinated in yogurt & mild spices, cooked in the tandoori.

Sheek Kabab - Not sure what this is, it only comes in this assorted dish and cannot be ordered separately...

Chicken Tikka - Boneless chicken marinated in yogurt & mild spices, cooked in the tandoori.

Tandoori Prawns - Succulent prawns marinated in mild spices, tandoori cooked.

Lamb (Boti Kabab) - Marinated tender & juicy cubes of lamb, cooked on skewers in the tandoori.

Nan - Typical Indian bread of fine flour baked in the tandoor[clay oven].

Raita - Homemade whipped yogurt blended with cucumber, tomatoes, potatoes & mint.

Kheer - Indian cold Basmati rice, milk & sugar, served with almonds.

I didn't get to eat what they prepared but this tandoori chicken and naan looks delicious!

when served .. ive mixed it with chopped red onion, parsley, and a sprinkle of dried mint.

I love summer food. So colourful and tasty.

I should have logged the calories the night before as when I came to put them into weightlossresources I found I'd eaten far too much lunch - should have had either hummous OR chicken, not both (or maybe half the quantity of each).

 

Breakfast

50g muesli 183 kcals, raspberries and semi skimmed milk - about 299 kcals in total (milk includes that used for tea during the day)

 

Lunch

homemade tandoori chicken bites(140g), carrots 60g, tomato 40g, pitta bread 44g,

red pepper hummus 94g (way too much), some orange peppers: about 686 kcals (must do better)

 

Afternoon

Peach 130g (some went on my breakfast), strawberries, 94g and green grapes 70g

 

Blueberry Optifit dessert made with yoghurt, cream and blueberries.

 

In the evening I ate at a friend's house - she made tandoori chicken and rice.

Nice and smoky tandoori chicken, served with a grilled tomato, and extra butter for the already buttery rice.

   

Good Persian, Iranian and Indian food at very reasonable prices. The charcoal grilled and tandoori items were nice and smoky.

We decided to get some dinner at the Veranda since we were already there.

 

The tomato basil bruschetta was AMAZING. Some of the best tomatoes Clint's ever eaten (tomato is his favorite food). The tandoori chicken skewers were quite awesome too.

Tandoori Chicken

* 1 cup plain yogurt (regular or greek style)

* 4 cloves of garlic, minced and mashed to a paste with salt

* 1/2 jalapeno pepper, minced

* juice of 1/2 of a lemon

* 2 tsp. fresh, grated ginger

* 2 Tbsp. garam masala

* 2 tsp. tumeric

* ½ tsp cayenne pepper

* ½ tsp curry powder

* 4-5 drops red food coloring (optional)

* 8 chicken drumsticks, chicken thighs or 4 chicken breasts

  

Directions:

 

1. Combine all ingredients and stir to coat evenly with the marinade.

2. Refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes and up to 1 day.

3. Line a cookie sheet with foil. Spray a rack with cooking spray and place on top of the foil lined pan.

4. Remove the chicken from the marinade (leave the yogurt mixture on) and place on the rack.

5. Bake at 425* for 30-45 minutes (on convection if you have it) or until internal temperature reaches 165*. Turn the chicken once ½ way through the cooking time.

   

Garam Masala (if you can’t find it at the grocery store)

 

* 1 Tbsp. ground cumin

* 1 Tbsp. ground coriander

* 1 Tbsp. ground cardamon

* 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

* 1/2 tbsp. ground black pepper

* 1/2 tsp. ground cloves

* 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

  

Directions:

 

1. Combine all the spices in a small, airtight container.
