On Christmas Eve we had potato pancakes with smoked salmon.
As aperitif I prepared Campari Orange and with the pancakes and salmon I made two sorts of creamed horseradish, one with cranberry syrup and the other with orange juice. I also served some cucumber sticks and raw chicory leaves. The bitterness of both Campari Orange and chicory helps digesting the fat of the potato pancakes.
Ah, yes, and we had a nice, chilled organic white wine with our dinner.

Der gedeckte Tisch
Heiligabend hatten wir Reibekuchen mit Räucherlachs.
Als Aperitif habe ich Campari Orange vorbereitet und zu den Reibekuchen und dem Lachs habe ich zwei Sorten Sahnemeerrettich gemacht, eine mit Cranberrysirup und eine mit Orangensaft. Ich habe außerdem noch Gurkensticks und rohe Chicoreeblätter serviert. Das Bittere vom Campari Orange sowie dem Chicoree hilft ein bißchen bei der Fettverdauung.
Ach ja, und wir hatten noch einen schönen, gekühlten Bio-Weißwein zum Essen.
Esta Nochebuena ha sido la primera en casa. Y había que preparar mesa para dieciséis. Así que con buena voluntad y muchas ganas, hemos montado una mesa de cuatro metros y medio, tras haber puesto toda la casa patas arriba, por supuesto.

A poker table cake for a 40th birthday party. All decorations are fondant, except the cards that are real. The flavours were chocolate cake with oreos 'n cream.

After struggling with sub-standard tables at public shows resulting in warped baseplates, wavy track alignment, etc.; I decided I should build my own table modules. The design objectives were as follows:
1) self-contained table module with legs, wiring, etc. built-in
2) dimensionally aligned to integer multiples of 16-studs
3) mutually aligned with dowels and/or bolts in both end-end or end-side configurations
4) support optional drop-in modules between self-standing modules
The design you see here is the result. I have built 4x of these modules for my latest Lego model railway and I am quite satisfied with the result. They have proven to be very robust and provide a flat consistent surface for the baseplates. The disadvantage of this design is its weight. Its a compromise I was willing to accept in exchange for robustness. These modules have to survive the rigours of transport to/from public shows as well as within my own house!

These icebergs are relatively flat (table or tabular in form) and so I think they come from sea ice rather than glaciers. (_C226956)
My son decided to help set the table. Not sure how many people he thought were coming over but he was ready for them.
Another old photo - my little folding table which used to belong to my grandparents. When I first knew it the top was blue but when it needed repainting I decided to use the same blue but with white on alternate slats.
Table Talk Pies with Mike Mozart, I LOVED these as a kid. They have NOT changed any in 40 years! Still have tin pie pan inside
This table skirting was actually made by my friends who joined the contest in our school...
And they won! =)

I know as a textile designer, I probably shouldn't be Oohing and Arring over plain (unadorned) table linen quite as much as I have been lately - but these pure linen tablecloths & napkins are so Oooo & Arrr worthy just as they are.
