This massive table, recently dated to the 14th century, was repainted in its present form for King Henry VIII (he of the six wives, who lived 1491 - 1547). Up until recently the table was for centuries venerated as the mysterious round table of the 'Once and Future King' Arthur who was reputed to have lived in the Dark Ages around 600 a.d.
The names of the mythical 24 knights are written around the edge of the 18 foot (5.5 metre) diameter table, weighing 1.2 tons (1200kg), surmounted by King Arthur on his throne. King Arthur looks remarkably like Henry VIII.
The table hangs high on the wall of the Great Hall in Winchester, which is the only remaining part of the castle commissioned by William the Conqueror for his capital: Winchester was then the capital of all England.
Just before Christmas Lunch of turkey, ham, potatoes (just dug up this week), green beans, and salad. Yum!
I got bored, and produced my very own card table... Literally!! It took a few hours and a lot of patience, but I think it looks pretty much like the real thing. :)
This is the view of Table Mountain from Milnerton Beach, Cape Town. It's very rare to see the mountain without a covering of clouds!
these cafe tables, like the desk in our room, are made of copper mesh sandwiched between glass. It shimmers in the light.

A little quirk about the P6 is that you can occasionally wind up with 13 exposures on a roll, without trying. I almost missed this one. The lab stuck it in a seperate envelope and I almost tossed it out before looking inside. I'm glad I did, because I really like this one. I did an iPhone shot of nearly the same angle; this is, of course, miles better.
Compare the upper ramparts of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head and you will note similar rock layers – the remnants of strata pushed up 280 - 220-million years ago and concertina-ed into a massive range. It once stood thousands of metres high, connecting the Peninsula to the Hottentots Holland Mountains (to the east) and covering the present-day Cape Flats and False Bay. Massive erosion has reduced this range to what you now see.

My wife has always done a lot of sewing and in the last few years also taken up more quilting. Diane has been shoving tables together to work but it was never really very good. Her request was a sturdy table the right size and height with an inset for her machine. This is what we came up with. We had just moved it up from the shop tonight so she is still putting everything in place. Drawers on this side will hold her various templates and other goodies.
Next I am building some drawer cabinets to go on both sides of her under the table, and some sort of shelves for batting and such on this side. Also need better lighting and I'm sure a few other things.
Marci- I'll try to get some better photos later but it was getting late, I was filthy from spraying finish, and we were hungry.
