Cotton covering

In the barn at a cider mill we visited this past autumn. Several other tables were occupied but this one sat awaiting us. The window also had burlap curtains.

A feature of Cape Town is the low cloud that hovers over Table Mountain. It is locally known as The Tablecloth.

Simcha likes to sit on this table, on which there is a new tablecloth, knitted by our daughter.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a beautiful day and spread love and kindness! ❤️❤️❤️

The other day I was walking my Donna in a park and there, sitting on a bench, was an elderly lady looking sad. When I was passing by, Donna jumped on the bench and sat by her side. The lady smiled and petted her on the head. She was holding in her hand a bunch of little branches with tiny, delicate white flowers. She pulled out one branch and kindly gave it to me. Since then it has started to wilt and I've kept it perched on my kitchen table. The little pot is my Granny's as is the table cloth. They seem to go fit together. The texture is mine.

Thanky you for viewing. I hope your Monday is a good one!

This Pelican got hold of a nice fish for his dinner - with its reflection making a white tablecloth for a fine setting. No silverware required!

For 120 pictures in 2020 #103 "Tablecloths/tablemats". I'm assuming that a tablemat is the same thing as a placemat in the US. These are some that we inherited from my mother-in-law when she went into assisted living. We rarely use these, so they're still in good shape.

Today, the idyllic Dianaburg forest is actually just a tower and yet it is a favourite destination for many hikers. Prince von Solms-Braunfels had the tower and two other buildings built in 1842/43, modelled on a bridge tower in Prague. The Dianaburg served as accommodation for the great hunter of the Solms family, Prince Ferdinand, and his hunting party.

Yes, as you can see, "Bedford Drab" really was the name of a Dewhurst Sylko Cotton thread. Only the British could make drab sound so elegant!

When it was my birthday a few months ago, a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions. She also gave me three follow up tins of similar delightful gifts for Christmas.

Those wonderful gifts are what has inspired me to create this series of "Embroider my World" images featuring my vintage bobbin collection. In this case, the wonderfully delicate vintage laces from the 1930s comes from my own collection of antique notions. I have accessorised them on a 1930s embroidered tablecloth with a Dewhurst's Sylko Sand reel of cotton and a Bedford Drab reel of cotton which date from between 1938 and 1954.

Belle Vue Mill, commonly known as Dewhurst’s, was built by Thomas Dewhurst in 1828. It opened in 1829 as John Dewhurst & Sons and was one of Skipton’s largest spinning and weaving mills. The mill’s position next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal meant that raw cotton could be shipped in by boats from Liverpool. Finished goods would then be sent back the same way ready for distribution. Coal to power the machine’s steam engines was also delivered by barge. In 1897 Dewhurst’s was bought by the English Sewing Cotton Co. It continued to produce Sylko, one of the mill’s most famous products. It was produced in over 500 colours and sold throughout the world. Sylko cottons are still available at haberdashers today.
