Bored one day after work, I had some spare materials on hand and created a quick table-top Aquascape.
"The Black Coast" aquascape is in the background.
This was designed by the Italian Game Aulenti. She was active in many fields of design.

Narra
H: 34” x L : 48” x W: 30 1/2” (86 cm x 121 cm x 76 cm)
Lot 110 of the Leon Gallery auction in June 2014. See www.leon-gallery.com/ for details.
Estimate: P 500,000
Provenance: Ilocos
From the auction catalogue:
Ilocos always had a shortage of lumber, so most Ilocano furniture are composed of smaller and thinner pieces of wood than those of Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog.
This particular piece, entirely made of narra, is a rare and very good example of an Ilocano Mesa Altar or Side Table. The top is of the binandeja style, with the central plank framed by thicker planks resting on a carcass with a drawer on either side of an open space decorated with a valance-like cutout. This space between the two drawers are highly unusual and are seldom seen.
The piece is supported by cabriole legs connected at the sides with an apron composed of carved lambrequins that is typical of 18th century Ilocano side tables. The shoulders of the legs are decorated with a beautifully carved gargoyle mask, locally called demonyo. The legs terminate with ball and claw feet resting on a square stretcher supported by square, S-shaped feet.

Not sure what CMV is?
Cytomegalovirus (sy toe MEG a low vy rus) or CMV, is a common virus that is usually harmless to people with a healthy immune system. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CMV is the most common congenital (meaning from birth) viral infection in the United States. 1 in 150 children is born with congenital CMV in the United States. More children will have disabilities due to congenital CMV than other well-known infections and syndromes, including Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Spina Bifida, and Pediatric HIV/AIDS.

To keep from having to pass out certain supplies for each art class, I have "table buckets". I custom built these myself using a mitre saw, wood glue, PVC pipe & a nail gun. I needed something bigger than the
traditional bucket, b/c my tables are so wide, and I didn't want the sides to be to tall, b/c the younger kids have a hard time finding things {plus crayons always got lost in the bottom of the buckets, and
now they can easily find the color they need}......the thing I REALLY love about these is that I can lift out the crayon part (that is the PVC pipe) and put a different supply in there if needed. WE call the PVC the "cubbies" for the art supplies...it works great b/c they always have crayons, scissors, glue, pencils, sharpies, & erasers readily available.
this was our set for the already broken up band "defects by billions"
at podring 2008.
