12 , yes 12 Moog 907's ....

An original ad for the Moog Minimoog scanned from 1981 Keyboard Magazine. See many more old synth ads here www.scottfromcanada.com/synthads.html

and my Moog Slim Phatty unboxing video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5_hmM7k6zU

In the lobby of the McLennan physics building, University of Toronto. What a fabulous thing.

Here's the description from the accompanying card:

This marvellous machine was used to dress the output of the large fork and resonator with a controlled set of overtones. Each fork is mounted in front of the appropriate resonator and driven by coils connected in series using the electronome interrupter tuned to the fundamental. A small keyboard opens the resonators.

It appears that the components of this apparatus have been redeployed, as the present set-up does not agree with the illustration in the 1889 catalogue and several pieces have been mounted with screws through the maker's mark - an unlikely occurrence in the original mounting. This was probably done to allow operation of the keyboard from the back.

on exhibit at the Ars Electronica Festival

This spectacular synthesizer system is a combination of Digisound modules (white faceplates) & Aries Modular (black faceplates). Originally there were two non-functional systems, an Aries Modular system and the Digisound. Switched On was asked to resurrect two separate systems and combine them for the best arrangement of modules. The result was very pleasing to say the least!

Meek FM

Typographic Synthesizer

by Rob Meek and Frank Müller

We had the chance (and honor!) to exhibit the typographic snythesizer Meek FM developed by Rob Meek and Frank Müller. The combination of a custom built hardware controller and software generates new shapes and sounds out of pre-installed typeface vectors.

Like a real musical synthesizer the Meek FM can shape and modify forms (+ sounds) with several parameters. This device shows that there are still a lot of untouched possibilies in realtime graphical instruments.
